Gobo keeps rotating continuously in FreeStyler with my 13ch moving head fixture — how to stop it

Post by UrsaMaior »

Hi everyone,

I created a fixture for my 13-channel moving head in FreeStyler using Fixture Creator. The fixture loads fine, but I have a problem: the gobo wheel is continuously rotating and I can’t seem to stop it. On my DMX controller, I can control the gobo rotation perfectly — I can shake it, stop it, and select gobos without issues.

I have set the gobo channel to 13 and the gobo rotation channel to 5 (Vector Speed) as per the manual. I also defined the rotation range from 0 (stop) to 255 (max speed). Despite this, in FreeStyler the gobo keeps spinning constantly.

Could someone please advise:

How should I properly configure the gobo rotation channel in Fixture Creator?

Is there something special I need to set in FreeStyler to be able to stop the gobo rotation?

What common mistakes might cause this continuous rotation issue?

Thanks in advance for your help! :fs:

Bring up the OUTPUT window and locate the fixture with which you are having the issue. Once issue manifests note the DMX values for the 2 channels. Are they what you expect?

Please post your fixture and a link or PDF of the manual.

Dumb question but when you use your DMX Controller is the GOBO controlled by channels 13 and 5 (relative) on the DMX Controller?

Hi,
hanks for Your advice!
I have two identical moving heads. On one of them, when controlled by the DMX controller, I can change the gobo patterns and shake them using channel 13. However, on the other lamp, the gobo pattern is continuously looping and I can't stop it (even on DMX controller).
Maybe I changed something in the lamp’s settings and now it’s impossible to stop the gobo rotation?
I’m even afraid to connect the lamp that works correctly to the FreeStyler again, because I don’t want to mess up its settings...

Based on all of the instruments for which I've created Freestyler Fixtures, channel 5 (vector speed) probably controls PAN and TILT only.

Freestyler does nothing different, DMX output wise, than your controller. It simply makes programming much easier but, in the end, it just sends out values to the DMX channels.

Based on your post you have the user manual. Please either scan it to a PDF and post the PDF here. OR take legible photos of each page and post the photos here.

I'm thinking you have a hardware issue with your instrument but I want to read the user manual to see if my understanding is correct.
