Devices with different adresses are doing the same?

Post by MisterMojo »

Hi all!

First of all I want to apologize for some mistakes, but my english skills are not perfect :)
I'm not sure if I posted this thread in the right section, because I don't know it yet if it's a Freestyler or a device-problem.

I have two JB Systems Micro Scan II and one Varytec Hellball I in use. I programmed my own fixtures for Freestyler with the fixture creator. Both are working well when I connect the devices via the USB2DMX-Interface (http://www.usb2dmx.com/) so I think it's not a problem caused by the programmed fixtures. The problem occurs, when I connect the scanners (DMX starting-adress 10 for example) via the DMX-Output of the Hellball (DMX starting-adress 30 for example). When I want to control the Hellball, the mirrors of the Scanners are also moving (or the gobo is changing,...) when I modify the values of the different channels of the Hellball.

So my question is: Why doesn't it work as it should? I want to control the different devices individually.

I hope you know what I mean and have any suggestions how I could change my setup so it works properly.

Kind regards from Vienna, Austria
Chris

You've properly put the scanners on the same address, overlapping them causing them to work together. Make sure you double check how many DMX addresses the fixtures are

They both need 5 channels and they are both programmed as they should (at least I think so :?). There is also a range of 15 free DMX-adresses between the devices, so they won't affect each other. I can upload the fixtures in the evening when I'm at home, maybe anyone of the community could have a look at them?

Yeah, that's the only other thing I would suggest double check your fixtures. If you can try and see if someone else has made them as well and see if you have gone wrong, if there's works and see where you've gone wrong. It then means you know for next time :)

I have been looking for some coded fixtures, but it seems as nobody uses these devices with the software. Or nobody wants to share their fixtures :P
I've uploaded them to Zippyshare: http://www75.zippyshare.com/v/66842440/file.html
Maybe anyone can find a mistake. Otherwise the fixtures (they work properly in my opinion) can be added to the database if you want to.

Instead of Zippyshare then in Fixture creator you can export them as pff and then upload them here.

There is an output monitor in FreeStyler you can have a look there and see if the values are changing on the mirror channel when you operate the hellball.

I will export the fixtures asap when I'm back home.

I checked the output monitor and there I saw that all values are changing when I operate the hellball. Is there a possibility that the output is synced in Freestyler??

There are some possibilities for sending the same vales on more channels but lets start by looking on the fixtures and then your addressing table.

...and here's the one for Hellball.

Would be great if anybody can take a look at it. Thanks in advance :)

I just had a quick look on the fixtures and they are okay.

I tested them on a dummy setup and only the varytec channel are changed when the Hellball are operated and the same for Micro Scan.

So fixtures are okay. (You miss to fill in the macros on the Micro Scan but that is not an error)

You have not placed speed on any channel which means the only the slider are available is that on purpose.
Think I would have placed it on "gobo rot 1.

So your error are some where else.

Thanks for your help!

Could it be possible that there's a problem when using Windows 7 Starter? I also already tried to reinstall the software, but the problem is still vacant... :/

Can you make a screen dump of the output window where I can see the micro scan channel that changes when you control the hellball

Here's the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYbl6_Bc ... e=youtu.be

In the video you can also see how the rotation speed (or direction) of the Hellball is changing when moving the mirror of the Micro Scan.

There's also another problem: when pushing the blackout-button the scanner lamps turn off as they should, but the Hellball is still working. What's wrong with this little bastard?! :?:

I have addressed my fixtures exact the same way.
One on address 10 and one on address 30.
Don't see the effect.
The only way I can generate this effect is by selecting both fixtures and then use the sliders in right side of FreeStyler.

Are you using the sliders in right side of FreeStyler or the fixture control panels to adjust the fixture with.
And are there a difference if it is the sliders or the control panel you use.

Just to confirm. When you adjust the DMX values on one fixture, FS also incorrectly outputs DMX values to the other fixture (as indicated by the FS DMX output window in the video)?

If this is the case them we can eliminate problems with lights themselves as they are reacting normally to the DMX signal.

Next step would be to remove your DMX interface and see if FS still shows the same behaviour.

I'm so fu**ing stupid!! Nothing more to say

I didn't recognize that sometimes both devices were selected… I feel a bit ashamed :?

Noobs and FreeStyler.. not the most perfect combination -_-

But thank you guys for your help! :) :fs:

Like wise. Easy to do. You select 1 fixture then select another keeps previous selected as well. :)

Haha I did the same thing!!!! Suggestion for this thread though to help anyone else out. Goto Setup;Freestyler Setup;Preferences;Colors.....you can change the colors/backgrounds/text of each fixture to give you a better idea of what fixture is actually selected and what's not. I found the default colors a bit hard to distinguish myself.
