Chaining Multiple FX together into one CUE??

Post by kittmaster »

Now I've got my issue with sound resolved, I'm trying to group together several FX into one continous chase pattern.

So I select 4 par cans, I select chase, and then intensity, and it generate. So now I have steps 1-4, I want to hit the + key, and then reverse the chase and hit generate, but it doesn't let me do it to have steps 5-8.

How come? I want to be able to chain all the fx together for the 4 par cans but don't want to have multiple cues to do it.

Am I doing something wrong or should I be able to cascade one effect after the other with the FX generator???

:?:

Thanks
Chris

Hej Chris

It is possible to cascade the FX functions.

The normal way is to create a lot of patterns and the place them in one cue.
Then you uses SubMasters to load them into the running cue.

There are some info on the wiki about this.

Hi Jan,

I think that is part of my problem, this is my first round with intelligent lighting. I have used an A-401 and a SAS-404 all these years to drive my lights based on the built in pattern generators which chased to music and always did a good job.

I'm not 100% sure how to use sub-masters or even what they mean. I've read the wiki, but not entirely sure how the two pieces fit together. I understand how the cues are loaded, cascaded and can be looped from the first, used as one, etc.....I'm fairly comfortable with most of the app at this point.

I have created a single "fx" patterns like:

chase
flip-flop

and then add those to the buttons and cue, what I don't understand is the concept of submasters even after reading the wiki, it must be some basic fundamental that I am missing.

Is there some video on youtube or some hand holding thread that could guide me through? Or maybe a simple walk through from A to H??

How bout something simple.

I'd want to so something this simple in a single cue:

chase forward 4 times
chase reverse/inverted 4 times
flip flop 3 times

loop and repeat above forever.

>>> the loop and repeat I believe is handled in the cue when its activated, its the cascading of the chases and Flip flops together that I don't quite understand yet.

I'm a fast learner, just need to be shown the way..... :)

Thank you for your time and effort.

Regards,
Chris

Hej againg Chris.

I was to fast in writhing so I missed a not.

It is NOT possible to cascade the FX functions. :(

Try to make some sequences.
Chase
Flip-Flop
Inversed Chase.

Clear the cue and add the 3 sequences.

Save the cue.

Insert the saved cue in SubMaster.

Clear the cue panel again.

You can now when you select and start one of the sequences in the SubMaster window see that to pops up in Cue window.

It is just a way to shift a sequence direct and fast.

I have not found videos that are usable. Sorry.

If it is possible for you then it will be nice that you try to explain what you don't understand.
And there is no stupid remarks here.

The problem is that we don't get any feedback where newbies get lost in our descriptions.
This is our only chance to understand what is difficult to newbies.

Ok I've tried what you said and it seems that I can't get it to do what I want.

Here is a link to my lighting from my website:

http://www.aaron-beachproductions.com/i ... p-lighting

So what you'll see is this, the two side cabinets are treated like a "4 single par cans" per side where each is wired in parallel. So the reds on left and right side are hard wired to fire at the same time. So they chase up and down opposite to each other using the sas404 controller to sound.

Then you see the overhead, that is treated like a 3 x 4 par can but separate from the side cabinets by using the a401 controller that chases to sound.

You may be asking why are they separate, well the simple answer is that not all jobs have the overhead there, so I could have a very simple show using just the two side cabinets, or when I bring it all out, everything is run "together". Each provides its own unique lighting output based on each controllers pattern generator and has done a great job over the years. I've decided to upgrade to use DMX for all the pars and there will be two x-move led 25r's on top of each cabinet.

So now, I need to have two seperate but parallel and automated chase scenes for each system. My goal is to have these types of choices:

Simple show:

Side cabinets with random chases, can can etc etc....fast dances
Side cabinets with dim fixed colors......slow dances

Complete show:

Side and overhead working as one show.....fast
Side and overhead working as one show.....slow

Side and overhead working as split show using simple show patterns.....fast/slow

Still a lot of creative to figure out exactly how I want it all to work, but ultimately, I want to just hit one button and the lights automatically go through all the preprogrammed scenes based on if its a simple or complete show....I have zero interest in screwing with faders or buttons or levels or anything.....it just has to work like simple toggle switches I use now to activate my mirror ball, spots, and controllers........that is the ultimate goal....

I "think" I could do it manually with a singular very long cue, but it seems difficult to try and get it right......I'd like to be able to build all the needed patterns, string them together, hit a single button and they just run until I turn them off or swap from fast or slow.

Does this make sense?

Any help would be great.....

thanks again.

OK

You have to play a bit with this to figur out what fit you shows best.

My suggestion is to create some sequences.
Combine them in a cue so it looks like you want for your show.
Save the cue.

The cues can then each be attached to a fast cue load button.

You then just have to press one button to load a complete cue.

You can in each cue have a sequence that control the overhead light, a seq for side panel and so on.

I think I got it, your work flow makes sense now and I have the buttons to do what I want, I can create my sequences over time as I want, and with the page tabbing, I can create 3 sets of groups for whatever, like simple show, all show, combination show.....etc.

That makes a whole lot more sense that way, and its all at the push of a button for fast easy access for this mobile dj!!

Thank you for helping me.

I may have more in the future once the x-moves arrive, but I "think" I got it now.

Greetz.

Hey
If you need you can chain mulitple fx into one sequence. You have to know how many steps each fx will generate.
Generate the fx that you want to run last and then go to step 1 and 'insert' the number of steps that the next to last sequence needs. you can then generate that sequence and it will fill only the steps that you inserted. if you need more just use insert and 'insert' the number of steps that the next fx needs and when you generate it you will fill only the first steps you just inserted. I have used this many times to generate runs and chases that need to go up one side of the room and then the other.

You solution is elegant and does the job, to bad only 45 steps are supported in one sequence.......how do you deal with multi cue and multiple steps sequences?

I'd like to create every effect and have my lights sequence to them using the cue list buttons, but my movers require parallel cue loads to run the movement, gobos, and colors......seems like I can only do one or the other........

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the great help and tip?

Regarding the 45 steps.

Have a look here under sequences.

Thanks Jan, that is helpful, does anyone know the bounded limit to the value? Usually its like 255 or 16384 type of thing.....anyone ever bump into the limit?

try it.
but unless you have a bulk of parcans then you don't need more than 100 steps.
and if you need more than 100 then I would adjust some of the other parameters in FX to see if it redures it a bit.

Well, I have found that with my x-moves they require 3 parallel cues to run to make it move the patterns, colors, and gobos "automatically" while the par sequences need to be changed together into a since cue so that both can "play nice" with either other. It seems its been one or the other, all the pars work in looping each cue sequence which screws up my x-moves, or the x-moves work, but then only one par cue works......its been a real bear to figure it out........the theatre cue stack seems like it is promising and the dev has been very fast and helpful, hopefully I'll have solution soon.....I need to get this going.... :)

Thanks for the feedback.
