Mixing sound activated and non SA on a submaster

Post by bckeeping »

Hi Guys,

I wonder if you can help, I am currently using freestyler as has been described elswhere on this forum, so all of my movements are on submaster 1, colour chases and presets on 2, shutters on 3 etc, so that they can be mixed together to get a particular look in a "busking" fashion.

My question is this, I'd like to have my shutter chases/settings set up so that some of them are pre-programmed speed, some are sound reactive. However, as the submaster cue is changed it replaces the one in the cue list but does not modify the sound reactivity option or loop settings etc. is it possible to makethese settings record with the specific sequences in the cue list?

Does that make sense?

Also, I have been having a play with the new version 3.0 and it looks like there are some useful new features, I am used to the Avolites pearl so it is nice to see some simialr functionality appearing :) Good work Raph!

A couple of questions though :

- FX generator
- is it possible to modify how any steps are recorded in the chase, in order to get smoother movement / faster speed?
- Can the effects be applied to other channels, i.e. the CMY channels to create rainbow effects?

- Shape Generator
- I cant seem to get the shape generator to operate (admittedly I don't have access to my rig at the mo so I am only baseing this on screen view) but I choose a shape and click "on" but the little dot does not move, am I missing something
- Finally as an alternative/enhancement to the fx engine that has been added, it would be wonderful if the "even distribution across fixtures" functionality could be added to the shape generator, a bit like the pearl. So that all fixtures follow the nice smooth shapes of the bezier, but perform the wave like the fx engine. Perhaps even more options that allow fixtures to move in pairs/3s/4s or evenly distributed... I think I am moving into wish list territory now!

Anyway, any help would be much appreciated if anyone has any ideas? :)

Kind Regards
Ben

FX Generator...

Generate your effect, click global fade, global scene time and also click Sync fade/scene time.

Now alter the scene time lower if you want the show to react faster, and higher if you want a slower show. Remember that you with get a smoother show if you select a scene time of 500, 1000, 1500, 2000 etc....

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for your help, being a little dense regarding the chase speed question.

I assuming from the lack of response to the question regarding Sound activated chases, this is because it can't be done?
Shame, but I am sure there are ways around :)

Also, Raph, it would be good (as your are making a few tweaks anyway ;o)) to allow the CMY channels to be controlled by the FX generator for making rainbow type effects. If you get a second to so of course!

Your help as always has been much appreciated.

Hi, Ben,

Like stated in another post ( http://www.freestylersupport.com/fsforu ... ?f=6&t=934 ), Raph has found the problem with sound activation. He'll post a new version any day now.
In the shape generator I've noticed too that the dot doesn't move on screen. Maybe it's intented to stay, although it did move in previous versions. I don't really mind, because my scanners work perfect. I prefer a static dot and moving scanners over static scanners and a moving dot.....

Regards,
Martin.

Hi Martin,

I think I'd agree with you about the dot, far better that way around and actually hand as I guess you can see the centre point of the shape. ;)

With regard the sound to light, this is a different issue I think. I know it isn't working in general at the mo and am very much looking forward to the fix for that. However, I was looking for some advice re: having some sequences s2L in a submaster and some not.. At the moment, the s2l setting appears to be set down in the cuelist window so as you change the sequence in the submaster it takes on the s2l, direction etc settings of that "space" on the cue list, rather than whatever it was set with when saved.

I was just wondering if there is any way to store this information with the sequence. My reason would be for example that I keep all movement chases on the one submaster playback. By moving down the list in the submaster the movements should change from nice smooth sweeps etc through to sound activated tilt kicks etc, but at the moment I can't see a way to do it.

As mentioned, I assume now that it just isn't possible in the software at the mo.
If you know better than me then I would love to hear back :)

Ben
