second universe using Enttec DMX PRO [SOLVED]

Hello,

Some time ago I bought two Enttec DMX USB pro interfaces. Firstly, I installed only one interface and configured Freestyler to use this interface. This all works great. Secondly, I tried enabling these second interface to serve as a controller for the second universe. When doing this some unexpected behaviour occurs. The lamps in the first universe stat flickering. The lamps in the second universe do not respond at all. When using other software all works great.

Has anybody else experienced this problem or does anybody know a fix?

What strikes me is that I cannot select a com port for the first and second universe controller. Freestyler only allows me to choose a FTDI driver but both options read "DMX PRO USB".

Where are the drivers for the interfaces from? Disc? Website?

Also check that you have selected the correct comport for each interface. If you are outputting the incorrect universe on the incorrect comport then you will get the wrong data in the wrong universe.

He mentioned that he couldn't select the com ports for either interfaces.

The driver I use are the ones found on the Enttec website. This is version 2.08.28.

Indeed I could not select a COM port.

indeed it doesnt show the comport.
but be sure you select the correct interface per universe.

i know it can be tricky as you see twice the same name. (i also use 2x enttec pro without any issues)

as you say one act strange and the other one doesnt respont.
so it seems to have select universe 1 and 2 for 1 dmx pro and the other dmx pro ist selected.

so select the other dmx pro on the Universe2 tab.

I have not worked with two universes with two dongles with the same name.
If it is difficult to figure out which is used then I think we shall think about how this can be done and then make a feature request.

Unfortunately even after an hour of trying different configurations I can't seem to get it working via the normal user interface.

As a last resort I tried changing the registry keys "OpenDmxDevice" and "OpenDmxDevice1" to 0 and 1 or to 3 and 4 (the COM-ports of the first and second interface respectively). Does maybe anybody know how to change these to get it working?

uhmm strange, but to give a idea the last time i used it was 1 year and a couple of weeks ago.

i allways had the problem i selected the same interface (comport) for both universes but after i tried the second interface (comport ) for one of the universes it allways worked.

do you also have the latest FTDI driver from the FTDI website?

and also be sure you dont use the same USB port that share the same chip on your motherboard. (try other USB port or use a USB POWERED hub)

becease USB can only support 500mA from 1 chip. so if 2 usb port uses the same usb chip it will split the power 2x 250mA or one device will work strange (flickering and the other will not work at all)

inside a pc it looks the same as a NON POWERED usb hub
so theres a CHIP that separates to 2,3,4,5, maby more usb ports
but on the most time laptops has 2 of those chips to provide 2x 500mA

and the Enttecpro use 500mA

at least i allways thought it worked like this, if i'm wrong please tell me.

Hi Spirit,

Do you maybe know how the comport for each universe is saved in the registery, then I could change it myself. Via the software I've had no success.

The problem seems not to be the USB power. Both universes work fine (also simultaneously) with other software and the testing feature of the Enttec software.

uhmmm.

the problem is i dont have 2 enttec pro any more so its hard to test it.

but if you can send me your e-mail (PM me) i can send you a older version from the X2 version.
and i'm sure it should work on that version. just to see if that work so i'm sure its a BUG or not

OkeanosBar, how do you switch from universe 1 to universe 2 ? I have the same problem as you had but I also can't figure out the switch. Thanks for your help!
