FS hangs when selecting fixtures

Dear Freestylers,

Newbie Mal here, getting stuck before i even get to the first hurdle.
As soon as i try and select any fixture the CPU goes to 100% and then nothing else ever happens.
I've left it overnight and no change - just click the close button, FS shows as not responding, etc

I've tried to download the "quick fix" on the index page (3.5.2 already installed), but the link to the rar file seems to be broken.
Is the phenomenon i'm seeing related to this?

I'm currently using the virtual interface until my dongle arrives.
So what am i doing wrong?

Hey,

I have told the Admins about the broken link on the front page like you say and they are sorting it. What are your specs of the laptop/pc your using?

Thanks for the quick reply. So it may be the rar/link that fixes it then.

It's a plain XP laptop, twin core Intel 2.5Ghz dell with 2Gb Ram.

Hey Mal,

The link could do as it's fixed a lot of problems for people having problems of it freezing etc, but you'd have to try it and find out. But looking at your specs it's not a bad laptop so it should be able to run it with out any stress

We'll see if we can't get you working and unleashing them beams again

I don't believe there is another place unfortunately so I think it's just a waiting game. I'm shocked, it seemed liked your had done it before and was a pro Well I wish you luck

So i can get started (deadline approaching and fixtures not even arrived yet), i may try a slightly earlier version. Do they all need this patch, or should any recent version be ok?

Mal,

I believe it's just version 3.5.2 that needs the patch as it was having a few problems from different people, including myself. If you try the other versions I believe they should all be fine, however if you do find a problem or experience a problem then please submit it in BT. Thanks

hi,

I've now got 2.96j installed as it seems to be the newest version available.
Without trawling though the change history, can i assume that this is basically the same as 3.5.2?
The UI is essentially the same and any "data" i produce with it can be used by later versions?

Might i also humbly suggest that the forum home page doesn't give a link to 3.5.2 as the latest stable version? When it isn't, and needs a patch that can't be downloaded?
Perhaps the previous version might be more suitable?

Hi Mal,

There is a stable verision for 3.5.2 at the top of the page, however the patch came after due to a small error for people that were experincing problems. Please be patience as I'm such you are aware the people that do this have 9 to 5 jobs and are doing this for free.

I'll have a word with the Admins to see if we can't get the problem sorted ASAP.

May I also recomend that if you are not doing anything major and it's causing your CPU to go 100%, that you sumbit a bug report about this so the developers can sort it. Thanks
