Semi Urgent Question about DMX creation

Post by kittmaster »

Can someone help me to understand how the DMX tables for a fixture's range setting works?

Example, x-move led 25r has channel for as 128-254 (GOBO WHEEL ROTATION SLOW - FAST) is all it says. Yet I know there is a medium in there if I add 63 to 128.

I guess my question is I only know medium is there because of the x-move led file that had macros set up for it and I tried it on the 25r. I am not understanding about how to know when there is something in the middle and when something is not. I've seen a couple of fixture files that looked similar but 0 was off 255 was on, and nothing in the middle.

So I'm a bit confused on this theory of basic operation, can someone help me get a better understanding? Google doesn't help much, as I may be asking the wrong question?

Thanks
Chris

hi

This is the Basic understand what you Fixture can do...
Most of the time the PDF from the Fixture tells it ALL.

a Fixture is made by a User and maby he only liked to use some Simpel Macro's
but with Fixture creator you can add as many Macro's you like..
most of the time i Spread a Function into 10 Icons...
So if you have the function GoboROT. CW Fast-> slow = Value 10 -> 120 (I have this from the 25R pdf)
i Divide 120-10 = 110/9 = 12.2 i use the 12.2
So macro1 = 10, M2 = 22, M2 = 34 , M3 = 46, M4 = 58 ~ M10 = 120

so it all depant on the user how created the Fixture..
But still in de end you need to create sequences and you dont need the Macro buttons.
you can also use value 26 because that looks nice..

the Macro's / buttons are just made to create sequences easyer..

as i have a laser and on 1 channel i have more then 110 differnt Gobo's/Shapes.
if i dragg the slider it realy hard to get the right gobo/shape So after i made the Fixture file with all the Buttons its way easyer to select a Gobo/Shape.

hope this clear up the function of a Fixture...

ok so by your example, the RANGE of 10-120 will be and it will spin at those numbers? meaning, each value means something in terms of speed of how fast it will move?

So when some does like slow, med, fast with range of 10-120 would be something like:

10=Slow
55=Medium
120=Fast

Does this sound right? If so, I will have clearer understanding.

Thanks for the fast response!

so my other question would be like shutter open 8-15.

Should I choose 8, 15, or 3.5 or 3 or 4???

This is why its confusing. My fixture I made for 25R I use all top values and they seem to work.....<scratches head>

Use PDF channel 6 for example as to what I mean.

7/15/131/139........etc

When I make my fixture, I used all those top values and they all seem to work ok on fixture......!

What am I missing on those for things like blackout/strobing slow-fast/shutter open................

It is very confusing why this is done this way......<embarrassed>

hi

nothing to be embarrassed about. it just some logic think you need to see.

On fixture creator you have a special section for the shutter info..
only not everything can be fillt in.

because these are the Basic feature most of all the fixture's have some fixtures have more feature's

But on thing to know is there are STATIC value's Like Shutter open/slow, and there are INCROMENTAL ranges like Strobe..

Blackout is the same as shutter closed.. and its just a Static value so on Value 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 the Shutter will be closed.
Shutter open is also a Static value so from 8 to 28 and everything in between the shutter will be OPEN.
Strobe is a Incromental Value so 16 is Slow strobe and 131 is a Fast strobe and everything in between will have a Differnt Strobe speed.

Shutter Slow Open - Fast closed is normal called "Shutter Pulse" but this is also a Incromental Value

The color wheel can be the most special one because this wheel can have All the differnt ways how it moves.
but that bepant on the Fixture .
As example 0 to 10 will alsoways show the First Gobo. So Static.
you can also have a Incromental Color wheel. this way you can also Have Half colors.
And some other fixtures have Half colors with static value's
or at the end you have a Incromental Rainbow effect.
This can look Realy smooth so the wheel just rolls Smooth thru all the colors.
This can also Look as Static so it jumps from one Color to the next...

The only way to learn all of this is to Play with the fixture..

and the Middle value is Only used with Static Features's.
and why, thats because DMX can be Slighly off the DMX value.
if you send Value 20 the fixture gets Value 19 or 21.
