Installing 2.96i

Post by nickguk767 »

Hi to all of you here.

Please help me here if you are able to - I have just found out about Freestyler, read about it and am now desperate to get working with it.

BUT, although it has downlaoded and apparantly installed OK, it won't start. The icons are on the desktop, but when I click the one for Freestyler I get 2 error messages:

The first one is: "Errror creating output thread" and the second is: "ActiveX component can't create object".

What is going on........................ please advise me how to get Freestyler to work!

Thanks,

Nick.

Well no, I haven't, because as I understood from from another post on here about installing this software you can set the software to output to a virtual output if you don't have a physical one. Yes, that obviously means that the software has to install itself, so if the virtual thing is correct, why won't the software install?

On the other hand, if you HAVE to have a physical output attached to and the PC in the first place, why doesn't the set up info tell us that?!?

Maybe I am just being thick about this!?!?!

OR maybe there IS something wrong here.......??

You guys know more about it than me, so I'll be very happy to learn from you.

Thanks.

yes once your in freestyler you can change it to a virtual device the error creating output thread is because its trying to load and start a usb device its set to but it doesnt exist just prease ok or whatever it says and freestyler should still run then u can change to virtual device, on the other hand the active x cannot create object is an installation fault did you restart after installing? do you have windows admin privaleages? try re-installing....

Hi, and thanks for replying.

When I hit OK to remove the output thread error message, the active-X one appears. When I click OK to that the program stops trying to load all together.

I do have admin rights on the PC, yes.

Any suggestions now?

Thanks.

Uninstall completely and reinstall. Reboot. At 1st startup of FS, choose the virtual interface. This should at least cure the "error creating output thread".
If the other one is still there, come back here :-)

That's weird. Always worked fine here and I've made numerous installs with various versions on several machines. I ONLY got the error on the output thread when I started FS and the physical interface was not plugged in. Even then, switching to the virtual interface solved the problem instantly.
BTW, if you want to do anything with FS, you'll need a DMX interface... plan to buy one?
Meanwhile I can't help, sorry.

No problem, Crisspy, but thanks for trying.

Between my last post and yours I figured that not having an interface plugged in could well be the problem and thought that as I will need one anyway I should buy one!

Have found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB2DMX-JMS-USB-I ... dZViewItem

and thought I would try it. Says it will work with FreeStyler and seems like a reasonable cost.

What do you think?

The Unable to create output thread message, is because a DLL hasn't registered, the second message is also relating to that problem.
Can't remeber which file it is but has been on the forum before try and do a search it may give you some answers.

Freestyler also reports an error message when a device is not pluged in, but is different for all devices and is an error created by the driver and not freestyler.
Freestyler should always open regardless of the interface being used/plugged in.
However when freestyler is first installed it uses a virtual device which has no error message, therefore the error must be down to an unregistered DLL file.

Re: Installing 2.96i - An Update.......

Post by nickguk767 »

Hi there to all of you who have looked at this post, and especially those of you who have, like me, scratched thier heads a bit....... Or even a lot over this problem!

My update now is basically to tell you that I thought it was probably time to "clean" the PC and so downloaded a program called RegistryFix.

It founds of loads of problems (unsurprising I suppose) and has supposedly fixed them!???????!????.............

Well, having uninstalled and re-installed (v2.95) things are still not working!......... Well, at least the only error message now is still the ActiveX one, but I still cannot start FS!!!!!!!....... So frustrating this is!!!! The fixture config thing works but the ArtNet to DMX doesn't!........ Any other feedback guys??????

Thanks, Nick.

have you entered these commands into the command line? If all these register properly and freestyler still isnt fixed,
try updating your .net framework it has been suggested by other members before and may help you.

Ooooooh, you BEAUTIES!!!!!!!..............It only bloody worked!!!!!! :D

Did the notepad thing, double clicked etc, uninstalled and re-installed FS and we seem to be up and running.

I do get a hardware error message as the PC boots but I am suspecting that is something to do with all this in that there is no physical interface installed yet.

Strewth, don't you just love computers!!!!!

Anyway, am going to have a fiddle now (with FreeStyler that is!) but in the meantime thought you might like to know that over the last 10 days I have received and subsequently sent back several 250W scanners although finally got the Chauvet intimidator 2.0's today (2 of them for now). They are excellent, very very good. Compact and (importantly for me as I am dealing with set-ups in private houses at the moment) they run quietly. Scanning is very smooth, not jittery, and accurate. Excellent units and way quieter than the 6 Intimidator 1.0's that I have been using when they all roar into life!!

Will try and get a video onto youtube over the holiday period, once I've got the new 150mW green laser going too that is!!

Thanks again guys :D

Re: Installing 2.96i

Post by nickguk767 »

Well, it wasn't quite too good to be true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FS works and I have gone through Ryan Lelek's tutorial - all does exactly what he says he should.

But then we get to visualisation...... "Here we go again" you say!!

If I click on the 3D icon in FS I get a dll error message. I have looked around on the forum for any possible pointers and did find the post from LJ Ralph about installing Magic View 3D manually, which I have followed.

Have un-installed and re-installed FS again (without Magic), and FS still works. Where things seem to wrong is that when i look in the FS directory on the machine here, there is only one dll file and that is MEVP.dll..........the other 2 that he mentions don't even exist so I can't carry on manually!!

Any ideas, please!?

Thanks, Nick.

STOP:
Please don't go reinstalling your OS! it wont help and is a bad form of trouble shooting, My pc has run for 4 years without a reinstall and still runs as good as it did from day one!

There has currently been problems with the magic easyview installer.
Raph has released the missing file on the forum.
http://www.freestylersupport.com/fsforu ... php?id=102

Reinstall freestyler again with the easyview then copy the above file into the freestyler directory and every thing should be good to go.

I really would suggest re-installing his OS thats probably what caused the problem first! (not the easyview one) Re-installing Windows is a habit you should get into it improves speed, clears it out and makes it 100x better (untill it gets clogged up again) Research it ,it really is good for you! just buy a backup USB hardrive and copy over all important files before you do.

Thanks all 3 of you for that advice. I'mvery interested in what support had to say and am going to research that with a view to possibly re-installing every so often in the medium term.
For now i am going to get the missing files and patch them in to see what happens.

Will let you know what happens (assuming the PC ever works again and I get online that is!!!! )

Cheers! :)

an alternative is ghosting.
once you have your clean os, patch it up to date and install drivers.
install your favorite apps, msoffice firefox freestyler etc.
then make a ghost copy.

then if you need to roll back just load the ghost and your computer is setup and working.
