Sound 2 Light Issues

Post by djscottyg »

I have the following fixtures:

2 chauvet intimators
2 chauvet insiginias

2 ADJ Mystic led
1 chauvet swarm 4 led
1 chauvet megaMoon led

They all work great in freestyler when I use them as single fixtures or as groups. When I use the sound 2 light program only the intimators and insignias respond to sound. I am using them as single fixtures w/random DMX in the sound 2 light program. Any Ideas? Thanks!

Cheers,

DJ Scotty G

Yes, it could be because the S2L module only gives random signals to a few certain channels, for example Pan/Tilt, Gobo and Color.
So it depends on how your fixtures are made, if you havent defined the fixtures functions as any of those that S2L sends signals for, it wont work with random dmx values.

I´m not sure exactly which channels/functions that Sound to Light sends signals to, but the 3 mentioned above does work atleast. Not sure about RGB colors, but colorwheel channels work atleast.

So check how the fixture files are made. For some effects it doesnt make sense to use for example color or gobo functions, but they can be used instead of macros or so, if one wants to use the random dmx S2L function.

Also, make sure you have set all fixture to react to sound(rightclick on them)

The other way to make it work is to make sequences for the different lights, and set S2L to Jump to next Cue mode. And then activate S2L control of the sequences that you want to be soundcontrolled. You do that in the cuelist. When you do it this way, you can controll any channel you like with S2L, and in any combination, and with any limitation.
And the lights dont need to be in "React to sound" mode, since it is the sequences that react to sound, not the lights as such.
You can still get it random if you want, just set the sequnces to random.

As far as I know, this is the "real" way to do it, the random dmx value is just an easier option when one is not using sequences. I used to do it the ""simple" way before, but pretty soon you find it is to limited and unpractical when running many lights.
I´d really recommend using sequences, and perhaps even submasters, to get the most flexible show, even if it is more work:P

I hope I made some sense atleast;)
