The Future of Freestyler

Post by ultanium »

Before I start this topic, let me say that I really like FS & I think Wellekens is a very talented individual. I think sometimes he is overwhelmed with FS, I mean look at the bug list. As a coder myself, I would be going crazy pulling my hair out trying to keep up, all the while working a day job. What does that mean for the future of FS? I for one would love to see more pixel control and E1.31 protocol added, its has been around since 2009, and before that under another name. Why not make FS open source, under the GPL/GNU, and let thousands of people help with the project? Running FS under Linux would be awesome, and there are some seriously talented programmers that could take this to the next level. I think that RW should open this up, be the project admin, and post the source on github for the world to help. As the admin, he can still decide what gets used in each release of FS, but its still his baby. What do you guys and gals think??

Some think it may still go that way. It is possible, as some have already to create plugins or side programs that will work with FS. As it stands I think FS should stay as it is. The developer in my opinion likes to share his creation with us and for that we are greatful. Our main input is beta testing it for him. There are lots offeatures we all wish for in FS and perhaps if we are patient they will be implemented at some point.

Thats my 10 pence worth!

I use Linux for everything but games and FreeStyler. I would love to see it go open source even though I have no programming skills whatsoever. A Linux version would rock my world.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
