Cannot get Freestyler/Enttec to control lights.

Post by icculus »

Hello... new to this community and of course having troubles right out of the gate. Hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction!

I cannot get Freestyler to control my LED lights. Instead of throwing in all my lights, I figured it would be best to start with one basic light and get that working... then I can go back to the fixture creator and get everything in once I know I am set up properly.

I have the Enttec USB Pro. I installed the driver from the CD that came with the Pro.
Using Windows XP
Device Mgr in XP shows under Ports - Com 3
Freestyler setup shows Enttec Pro - Com 3
Enttec Pro has a flashing green LED light currently

I am adding one Chauvet Colorspash Jr to try to get up and running.

I added the fixture from Add Fixtures. When adjusting the color values, the light does not respond. I have the Colorsplash jr. set to DMX channel 1 and the software shows channel 1 as well.

I opened Sunlight 3d view and added the colorsplash jr. When I adjust the color in Freestyler, my light in the 3D view changes color accordingly. Also in Sunlight in the bottom right corner it has a green light on saying that DMX is enabled.

Right now I am at a loss for why I cannot control this 1 light. I have tried another colorsplash jr. just in case something went bad.

What am I missing?? I don't believe I am outputting any DMX at this time. Should the Enttec have a flashing green light? Is there a way to test this to make sure the output is working.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!!!

Open the "DMX output" window to verify that the signal is going to the correct channels. Verify that your DIPs are set correctly. Remember that European and American DMX assigns differ by one (that confused the heck out of me).

Flashing light means it is outputting DMX.

Some fixtures require you to set the address using the dip switches (or similar) and sometimes also the 1 or the 10 or even both. Check the manual to confirm.

Download the USB pro utility. It will confrm that your computer is connected to the devicer and also has a test facility for outputing DMX on the first 20 channels from memory:

I'm guessing DMX dips on lights aren't set correctly.
