"Groups" not working right

My "Groups" option is being flaky. I can type in the box and it adds a "group" but I can't add fixtures. Seemingly randomly it will add all my fixtures into a group, but I can't re-create that right now. At the moment, none of the groups have a + by them. If I go to the "select all fixtures" icon (1st one). It is showing the 3 groups I had typed in, plus three zeros, a three, and the name of a group I removed.

Luckily I have a backup saved of the last working groups.set file so my sequences will be ok. I'm really frustrated, is there any instructions on how to edit this file directly? The Add Fixtures/Add Group/Remove item menu doesn't seem to be doing what it is supposed to do. I only had 2 groups set up.
