Re: Ideas for Fixture Creator
A wizard would be cool for simple fixtures with "normal" behaviour.
but if we want to give people some knowledge about making fixtures with "strange" behaviour/configurations, I think it would be better with a detailed manual for the fixture creator with examples of all the "strange" scenario's Onge was talking about and more. if a wizard have to manage all these scenarios it would take a lot of time to programme, in stead of giving some examples people can learn from they are capable to make their own fixtures.
what you could do is making hints which pop ups when you point the mouse over one of the attributes in fixture creator, describing what to enter?
the only thing I was missing in the fixture creator, was auto completion of dmx values for gobowheel and colourwheel channels. Raph made that in version 3.2.1.
when people know how the dmx and fixture creator works, I think it would be faster to make a fixture manually in stead of using a wizard.
just a thought

Re: Ideas for Fixture Creator
Since fixture creation seems to be an extreme HOT spot around the boards, it might be of great benefit to spend a bit of development time on the Fixture Creator to help ease the pain. There are some that just don't understand how to make it work properly. I've not had to work with it yet and I think I can probably figure it out, but I know there are others who could utilize some additional help and guidance. Especially, since it's an extreme act against some to ask for one to be made on the boards.

Re: Ideas for Fixture Creator
I'd have to agree with Onge and LJ_Krede.
It would be impossible to create a wizard that covers this wide range of different fixture type with more different ways of doing things.
But it would be possible to create a wizard that covers some default dimmer, scanner and movinghead scenarios. In fact, that should be easy.
After that wizard the Fixture creator can be used to enter the more advanced stuff.
If the fixture file format is available, I'm willing to create something like that. (Knowing that Raph is extremely busy with some other features that are going to be really nice).

Re: Ideas for Fixture Creator
A nice feature in the fixture creator could be showing the gobos/colors/image of fixtures in the list at the right. it will be a lot qicker to find the right gobo/color/fixutre image when making the fixture.

Re: Ideas for Fixture Creator
there's an easy way round this, just open the relevant folder on you pc and set view to thumbnails. job done!LJ_krede.dk wrote:A nice feature in the fixture creator could be showing the gobos/colors/image of fixtures in the list at the right. it will be a lot qicker to find the right gobo/color/fixutre image when making the fixture.

I already do this some times. but i still think it could to have this feature implemented in the Fixture Creator. but it is a low priority request.

Re: Ideas for Fixture Creator
I totally agree with you, what I'd like to see in addition is a full screen option for fixture creator. when i did the file for the 28ch mega pixel all the zapping back and forth through 28 channels and 130 macro's was a pain.LJ_krede.dk wrote:Thanks for sharringljvc3010 wrote:there's an easy way round this, just open the relevant folder on you pc and set view to thumbnails. job done!LJ_krede.dk wrote:A nice feature in the fixture creator could be showing the gobos/colors/image of fixtures in the list at the right. it will be a lot qicker to find the right gobo/color/fixutre image when making the fixture.![]()
