Martin Mac 250 Krypton 16bit Extended problem

Post by the_illuminator »

Hello,

I have 4 Mac 250 Krypton's that I run in 16bit Extended mode. I have freestyler 3.0.1 that I use as a backup to my Hog 250 console. The problem I've encountered is that the Mac 250 Krypton in the freestyler fixture library was created using the 16bit standard mode (14 channels as opposed to 17 in extended.) I tried to manipulate the fixture configuration in Fixture Creator, however I went awry somewhere and cannot figure what to do to get it to run in extended mode. Does ayone have any thoughts/ideas?

Can you export and upload the fixture file you are trying to configure and the manual/DMX channel overview for the krypton. then we have a better chance to help

You won't get that 100% to work, unfortunately.
According to the MAC 250 Krypton DMX protocol (16 Ex):
(Channel - Description)
3. Dimmer fine (Least Significant Byte)
5. Color fine (Least Significant Byte)
10. Focus fine (Least Significant Byte)
These 3 channels are the extra 3 channels you get in 16 Ex mode. All other channels in between or above, shift up.

FreeStyler / Fixture creator only support 16-bit channels on the pan/tilt channels (called Pan 16 bit/tilt 16 bit).
In the FreeStyler world there's no such thing as 16 bit dimmer, Color, Gobo and Focus. They only work 8 bit (1 channel), as for now at least.
So, a workaround would be to recreate (copy and adapt) the Mac 250 Krypton fixture file, reenter all channel number accoring to the 16 Ex mode, but leaving out the extra 3 channels (3,5,10), since theres just no place to fill them in. You can, however, name them right in the channel desription tab.
So the controls will be usable in FreeStyler, however, when using FreeStylers' Dim, Color or Focus controls, FreeStyler will send it 8 bit mode, in stead of 16.
In fact, channel 6 (or 8 in 16 Ex mode) of this fixture is Gobo Rotation fine, is the same problem. It's just not processed by FreeStyler as a 16 bit gobo channel, but it is entered in the Channel description tab. (Only should be named as Gobo rot fine, is my opinion). Thats what you should do with the channels 3,5 and 10.

Ofcourse don't forget to set the other channels correctly.

As this is a backup system, it seems to me that thats not a big problem. It may even be that you can't see the difference when using this combination.

On way or another, if you created the fixture file, please post it here, so other people can use it.
If something is not clear, feel free to ask.
