Sound to light or Manual trigger and submasters

Post by bckeeping »

Hi Guys,

I really am having a lot of difficulty in using either the sound to light or manual triggering to control chases. I have triedx a host of different options.
Firstly, like some others I use the submasters to control various elements of the show, e.g. Scan movements on 1, shutter chases on 2, colours on 3 etc.

I have had no luck at all with the sound to light built into freestyler and so instead use a program that generates a midi note with every beat of the music. I have then tried 3 different options to use this midi-note inside freestyler (in the midi-setup bit) to trigger the chases. But each one has had problems, does anyone have a good solution to getting chases to run in time with the music, while using submasters?

Option 1 - Using the midi note to trigger the "Manual trigger" button
The manual trigger button seems to do exactly what I want it to do, however, I seem to experience the folowing "bug" :
1- Select a sequence from the submaster list and press run - sequence starts running
2 - Start pressing the manual trigger to get it in time with the music - works fine
3- Try to select a different sequence, or stop the current sequence and nothing happens, can't stop the submaster or do anything, have to restart freestyler to stop it, not even the "release all" or anything works

Option 2 - Using the midi note to trigger the "s2l trigger" option in midi setup
This would be the perfect option as you can select which sequences respond and which don't. Howver it seems to have the same problem as above, plus iut only triggers on every other beat... bug?

Option 3 - Using the midi note to trigger "tap sync" button
I fell back on this as a last resort and it would seem to work, except that the "tap sync" requires three presses of the button to sync so a continuous stream of presses in time with the music has some very strange effects!

Any thoughts would be really appreciated. This sound to light issue has been driving me mad for weeks now and I can't believe no-one has it working anywhere? :))

I have a gig on saturday and I'd really like to get this one ironed out.

Ben
