DMX Pro input for visualising

Post by THW Mark »

Hi there,

i'm new to freestyler (and this forum) and first of all: I am very impressed so far! The user interface of the software is quite understandable compared to some of the commercial alternatives. I want to use freestyler in the following setup:

So, basically the merger allows me to use the standalone controller as a failsafe for the freestyler using opendmx setup. and sometimes it might be handier to use that one, when all wiring in flightcases is done i can simply leave my laptop out and due to the merger, the output will still work without changing the wiring. So far so good. I have tested this allready, works like a charm.

Now for the hard part, the enttec opendmx pro has an input function. I would like to use this input, to test my setup in freestyler and easy view 3d. Like this:

This would allow me to configure the standalone controller using the visualiser, just at my desk instead of at a live environment. Unfortunately, i have tried several ways, but could not get freestyler to read my inputs. I even tried setting up a art-net node using a third-party program, which would read the dmx values from the dmx pro and relay them to freestyler, but this won't work either. Has anyone a suggestion how to do this?

I'm looking forward to your response!

Others may correct me if I am wrong...

Freestyler has limited DMX in capability, so if you with to operate your external desk, and see the results in freestyler, it isnt going to happen, sorry.

BUT in easy view 3d, I think you can operate it with an external desk, but I think you need to buy their own usb - dmx device along with the license.

Like I say, feel free to correct me if I am wrong, but I have considered this setup in the past!

hmm yeah, i guess the easy view makers wouldn't very much like it if it worked, you wouldn't need the full easyview package then.

i think i just go buy the licence with the dmx in controller, 300 euro's with a full version ain't that bad..
