Hi All,
I've got a Sandbox UMX2 interface that I'm currently using with Horizon Show, and I would love to give Freestyler a try. However, it doesn't appear that I can use this DMX interface.. I was wondering what would be involved in getting it added to Freestyler?
Thanks
Paul

Re: Sandbox UMX2
I think you might be able to use ArtNet on FreeStyler to get it to work as Sandbox supports that according to the manual, not sure but think that is what it is suggesting.majestik1024 wrote:Hi All,

Is this the same unit? http://www.sandsys.com/products/umx2.htm
It may well work with one of the setups already in FS - wopuld be worth going through them to see ?
Looks really cool. They do a version that would effectivley give you 4 dmx universes! (The umx2 can be configured as 2!)
Anyone know who distributes these for the UK market ?? And what software they are recommending to use with it?
Im not sure that it will do artnet as well as there is no rj45 port.

There is no RJ45 port on an iPhone and that does ArtNet to FreeStyler.dmxlighting wrote:... Im not sure that it will do artnet as well as there is no rj45 port.
FreeStyler has built in ArtNet protocol so it should talk to the box if setup correctly, well that is what I get from the manual.
So it does it's ArtNet stuff internally and pass it via the USB to the interface to go out as DMX.
I think that is the whole point of SandNet is that it should allow you to use any "interface" protocol/drivers and still get the correct DMX signals out of their interface. Well that is the way I read the blurb on their website and manual. Maybe I have it wrong, but they do not seem to point to any particular piece of lighting software that their interfaces and software works with.
quote from the sandnet website wrote:SandNet LocalLink provides a unique utility that allows you to connect the SandBox UMX2 to PC based lighting controls running manufacturer specific or open “DMX over Ethernet” protocols. This eliminates the need for system specific USB drivers and facilitates USB connectivity for a wide range of popular PC based lighting control systems and visualizers.

Re: Sandbox UMX2
I finally got to trying this out today, and couldn't find a way to get the SandNet software to behave, could be that I just don't know what I'm doing, or could be that the Sandnet software is just crazy
However, I think I'm going to look seriously at just buying a new adapter to test out Freestyler, and some other options. An Enttec OpenDMX is cheap.

Tell us what you are doing, take screenshots and post them as well. Maybe between all of us we can figure this out and then we can set it up in the FreeStyler Wiki for others to use.majestik1024 wrote:I finally got to trying this out today, and couldn't find a way to get the SandNet software to behave, could be that I just don't know what I'm doing, or could be that the Sandnet software is just crazy

I assume you are using SandNet and have Sand Brower running and set your interface to an Art-Net IP address of 2.x.x.x also have configured FreeStyler for Art-Net.
I am pretty sure you will have to set your computers IP address into the 2.x.x.x range as well and a subnet of 255,, but maybe not.
