I remembered today why I gave up on trying to make the Enttec Open Dmx Usb dongle work with Freestyler as I tried once again to make this thing open up.
Having the same problem on my Windows 7 machine as I did with my Vista laptop before. I start Freestyler and the appropriate dongle is chosen...when I click "next" the "Open failed" error pops up but the software proceeds to open and everything is normal. I'm assuming that it's not working although all the problems that I'm having with addressing these damn lights has left me in the dark anyway.
So, two questions...
1. When the error pops up, am I correct in assuming that the dongle and the software are NOT communicating and that nothing will work correctly?
2. How in the world can I fix this and get my $ worth???? I have already tried to install an older version....please help!!!!

Re: "Open Failed" error with Enttec!!!!
Hi djdawg123, Welcome to the FS forum. I have the Enttec Pro dongle, but will try to help. Have you downloaded the latest drivers from Enttec for the Open? I noticed they do include Windows 7. You can get it here:
http://www.enttec.com/index.php?main_me ... =downloads
Have you checked to make sure the com ports are the same for the PC and FS? They must match up. You can see what port the dongle is on by going into Device Manager. I don't have Windows 7 either, I guess its still called Device Manager?? Once you know what port it is on in Windows, go into the setup of FS and select the same port.
The Enttec Pro has a green LED that blinks when you have a good connection from FS to the dongle. I know the Open model doesn't have that, so not sure how to tell if it does have a good connection.

How about checking your drivers and settings. Its already stated above:
2. How in the world can I fix this and get my $ worth???? I have already tried to install an older version....please help!!!!
1. Get the Enttec open drivers
2. Check the assigned com-port in the device manager, and set the same port in FreeStyler.
Sometimes its really that simple, without having to shout out that you need help.
