sound-to-light addons or something needed

Post by yofo »

Hi

I use my light on sound-to-light on lights, but I want some of my lights to black out then the beat stops, does fs have that function, I can't find it tho, I personally think it might be a cool option

then I'm using normal mode, my laser auto black out after 4 sec then the music stops, but I want it to blackout in DMX mode also

I understand what you are asking for but currently thats not possible.
I also doubt it will ever become a feature but then who knows!

I don't want to be a smart-a55 but I think it's not imposable , because fs have some tricky functions tho. like for example that option that uses random steps and sound to light itself, maybe they can like put in a tick option that does a blackout after a x amount of time if the Sound to light is not giving a next step command, and then for the steps wont continue, and so it just black out, you just would probally need to enter the black out address, like 0 or something.

sorry If my explanation is confusing, but I can't explain it correctly

Maybe Remco_k can look at ways to do this on his exellent s2l interface.

I dont think its impossible to do just not easy to do. Then Im not a programmer so I'll leave it to others to comment!

yea, I agree, it's not as easy...and I don't know a thing of programing, the only programming stuff I know is about modifying html java script, and to use qbasic scripts to run LPT to light up some led's, that old!!!

But I have ideas, hehe

Its easy to implement, just some work. But as always there is a but. It needs configuration, and as many people use it, as many people want different options for groups of light to go off, or on when the beat stays away... And then it's a lot of work.
I'll think about it, but for now I don't think this is going to be built in S2L.

Next to that, I think implementing this in S2L would be the wrong place - if some of this functionality is implemented, it should be in FS. I guess.

I'm not the programmer here, but I personally can't see how that can be programmed into Sound to light module tho, to me, it's more like, S2L is giving FS a command that a beat have been detected

Think of it more as s2l using sendmessage to tell fs to blackout when there is no music.

As a simple on or off function on the s2l (example - a tick box to do a global b/o on no sound).

That way I think the programming would be easier ? Could be an interesting beta !

yea, but it means, then it's ticked on s2l, then all the lights in FS will b/o then no beat?

It was just an idea on what could be done as quick solution. For it to work very well and be group seletable feature it might need some input from our glorious developer, Raph.

I do think there is some mileage in this being developed as a feature but it way beyond me a relys purly on the talents of others to make this happen

Here's my idea:

In FS 24 blackout groups can be controlled externally, so in theory S2L could blackout a configured blackout group 1...24.
Looking at it this way, its a nice add on in S2L. Just configure a blackout group to blackout when no beat is detected.

The only thing I can't find for some reason is how I can define a blackout group in FS? Anyone? :)

well the reason why I dropped this thread with this question, is because I think it would be extremely cool to have that function in FS, because, in a club environment or live show, it's getting more automated then, and follows the music, and that's nice, it's a must to have funtion, it can make a huge impression on the audience, yes groups will be needed. If my idea is going to be shot down, as a stupid addon function, then I dont know anymore, then S2L was also a wast of time....and I personally love that S2L, it's better then the old original version that killed a quad core, lol

just a guess: make groups for you lights, and then try to activate the "blackout group xx" feature

Hi all

In the next version the S2L functions are improved and the blackout option is not a bad idea to complete these improvements.
I will try to add this function for the next release.

Best regards

blackout groups are not definable however you can black out a group.
Sorry for being cryptic. The fixtures are automatically grouped when added by fixture. you can edit this by going to edit-> group.

the blackout Group function then applies to these groups in order.

I can't seem to make it work the way that I had in mind, if I click on Sound to light button in FS, I get S2L module and a smaller box with the following settings, (Jump to next step (CUE, ....) and then (Random DMX value) and if I click on that then I see the Blackout function, well I always use the (Jump to next step (CUE, ....) function because, I make my own 200 step program and want them to be put on blackout after X amount of time, I've made a screen shot of my program with the example of tick box where I thought I might be cool to have the blackout option, it's the pink dots next to "disable all fades" button, the only concern that I have is, where will the x amount of time option be then, because that needs a separate dialog box basically :?

The image is attached in a zip file, because I can't post it just like jpeg, because of some height and width restrictions

Have you got the beat Raph metioned earlier in theis thread ?

Contact Raph and discribe the issue. maybe he will change the blackout feature to what you want.. What you wrote about selecting which line in the cue windows should be blackouted sound like a good idea.

Currently the blackout function only works in the random mode (only the fixtures who react to sound).
Implementing it per cue isn't that easy to do, a global blackout can be added without a lot of work (fixtures could be excluded with the "ignore blackout" setting)
