Hi There...

I have been using Freestyler for about a month now, and its great!

My Set up.
Virtual DJ on one machine + 2 24" Monitors for Video.
FS running on seperate pc with audio line in for sound to light...
4 Futurelight Scans / 2 Revo 3 LED's / 1 RGB laser

Few issues...

1. How come the fx generator does not allow you to specify the amount of steps to perform its generation over...
- If I want a light to fade in and out over 20 steps how come when I choose sine / cosine it always defaults to 12 steps.
- The Saw or linear curve only seems to work over 2 steps ?. How come ?.
- Some of the other preset fx shapes are unclear about what they do.

Maybe just needs some help on each shape on a pop-up or something...

2. On my LED revo III's it would be useful to insert some repeat steps on different channels...
- E.g. I program step 1, 2, 3 on channel 2, and then I want to repeat these steps on channel 3,4,5,6,7,8, but at slightly different timings...
Any ideas...

Most lighting shows have to be created manually, very few LDs or programmers use FX generators to create their shows for them or at least not admit to it

i thought you often used the FX generator (shapes) for movements. I have seen a concert where the Movingheads were Tiliting up and down, but with different speeds, so they were not in sync.. I don't believe the Light technichian did make that look manually. the benefits with FX generators (shapes) in a lighting desk is that it is only programmed in one step (not like the FX generator in FS)

As for the saw and sin waves, how can you have a saw with 2 steps, min would be 3?

if you only use saw for two fixtures the FX generator only generate two steps..

Of all The LD's & LJ's ive worked with Id say this is far from true. They all use FX Gen to start making chases and make ajustments as needed.
Could you imagine manually making a running shutter chase over 50 moving heads? You would be there all day!

On my Frog there is a macro section which delivers brilliant results. To create a 12 head true circle movement I could do this in 3 minutes, including waiting for the desk to boot. It would take hours to plot that manually.

FX gen is the foundation of any lighting programmers tool kit. The FS FX gen is pretty good but as are the gens in other s/w controller. As yet Ive never seen an outstanding on that wasn't on a hardware desk.
