Usb dmx "Enttec Open dmx" only half channel response

Hi guys ,

First , I would like to thank you guys for this great program.The interface is really easy and functional.

However I have a strange problem with Freestyler 3.0.1 and some Usb dmx (xlr cable) from German ebay. The guy who sold it to me , sad I chose it as "Enttec Open Dmx"

The problem is that only half the values of any dmx channel works. Only to about 127(of 255) value , above that it just doesn't work right( eg pan or tilt don't move away from their center position , or anything else that have any functions above value 127 , it skips jumps tries to move but backs to middle position-value(talking for pan/tilt movement) )
I tried that usb dmx with other program "PC Dimmer 2008" , and there he works fine(but I don't like that program , Freestyler is better for me )

I tried all other interfaces in Freestyler , but haven't found one working right.

I don't know if the usb dmx cable is faulty or just driver(plug-in) problem.

So, your USB DMX device is sending all 512 channels, but none of those channels seem to be able to have a value higher than 127?

Are your sure you have an Enttec Open Dmx device or have one wich talks exactly the same protocol?
This one:

If its not the above device, then tell us the brand and model and a link to a web page with info of the device.

It seems to me that you are having a DMX device that differs from the Enttec Open DMX and its protocol.
If so, select the proper device in de FreeStyler list, if its there. But if its not there, .......

I don't know if it is sending all 512 channels , the problem is that i doesn't work right above value 127 on any dmx channel, and I have tried it on few different scanners and effects.
For example , pan and tilt are mapped to be usable in full range of dmx channel value 0-255 , and it works ok until 127 or middle point , above that value it can't move (sometimes it does for a sec but goes back to the last (middle ) position) Same is with colors or anything which have any function above value 127.

I have one(usb dmx cable , with neutrik xlr jack with interface inside it) , that should talk the same protocol. it is this one http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 3D1&_rdc=1

In PC Dimmer I selected the same protocol , and it worked fine. Also I have tried all other devices in Freestyler on the list ,but with no success

The Enttec Open DMX is based on the often used chip: FTDI 232BM
I think its possible to embed that (with some surrounding components) inside a XLR connector.
If it really is in this case... I don't know.

Edit:
I guess that this FTDI 232BM chip is not build in this DMX controller, since it is 9mm x 9mm including leads.
Would be _very_ crowdy in such XLR connector, even without other components in it. I think it wont fit at all.

@Markoj; I hate to say it, but it seems that your DMX controller is far from "Entec open DMX" compatible.
You say you tried all other devices in the devicelist in FreeStyler, so 2 options are left:
1. You have a device that talks some protocol that is not implemented in FreeStyler --> Find out what protocol it is.
2. Your device is (kind of) dead.

I Think that FTDI chip is inside.I'm not sure if it is the same model (232BM) but I'm sure it's FTDI. (I've got some drivers to install it,and I've seen him on the status bar)

I selected Enttec Open Dmx in PC Dimmer 2008 software , and it worked with that plug-in in PC Dimmer.Maybe that 2 on the name identical protocols (enttec open dmx) are somewhere different , I don't know

I will ask the seller to see what he has to say

The Chip is FTDI FT232RL

Okay, is an FTDI 232RL, not a BM... But still, it fits...

If the driver did'nt work out:
Now, since it is another chip, it might be that the way FreeStyler controls it, just is'nt good enough.
But it could also be 100% compatible. I just don't know.

Also, when selecting Entec open DMX in FreeStyler, press the advanced button. Notice that a refresh rate setting comes available.
Try setting it to the fastest (20 msec).

Hmm , when I select Entec open DMX there is no advanced button only reset output.

I think you will find the advance button for the refresh rate is only on the beta versions at the moment. Should be available on the next release which should be pretty soon.

Oh shoot, I should have thougt about that.

I have same problem and no clues what to do with it...
all chanels on dmx output go up till 128-130 and then strangely behave like going up and down, but Output shows that everything just fine. it's hapening on all adreses and diferent fixtures. I tried do install older vertions, but it's no good.

All other software do just fine so i think it's not driver or interface problem .
