Hi everybody,
i experienced a little working with freestyler where i used my notebook with freestyler exclusively and dmx4all. Everything was quite ok.
Normally, on small events, i use the notebook with Traktor DJ Studio (DJ-Solution) and an ZAUDIGY-Soundcard (PCMCIA-Card) for the music. For the small light-solution i use an external ligth-controller. In one of my last sessions, my external light-controller did not work. In this bad situation i decided to use freestyler to control the light on the same notebook i used for Traktor. Everything went fine about two ours. but after a while i had a sound distortion every couple of minutes for some seconds. after a while of ended freestyler and disconnected the dmx4all dmx-interface and i had no problems any longer with the sound distortion (my last fallback for the light was to put the light than on automatic-program mode).
has anybody an idea what could be the reason for the sound distortion when using trakor dj-studio with the zaudigy-pcmcia-soundcard together with freestyler and dmx4all interface?
kind regards,
djht

Re: Problem using Freestyler AND DJ-Software on same machine
I am not familiar with the dmx4all serial/dmx converter, but i am assuming (from its name) it is a open-source chip that does not have an onboard CPU? I only assume this because I have had a problem similar to this with the Enttec Open USB-DMX converter. It is because the processing speed is dragged down by both applications outputting huge data packets in realtime. I switched to the Pro version, which has an onboard CPU and this fixed the problem for me. The onboard CPU does the actual conversion to dmx protocol with this box, so it relieves the CPU of the main computer (or notebook as the case is) of this activity, which improves the speed of the main CPU, which should fix your sound distortion lag (which is usually the inability of the CPU or RAM on the computer to keep a realtime stream from software to data output. The other option is using a data buffer for your audio, which is pointless when your DJing, so don't bother!
Hope this helped!

Yea, Sounds like the CPU cant handel it, You might be able to try to increase the Virtual Memory!

Re: Problem using Freestyler AND DJ-Software on same machine
First, thanx for your answers,
I dont know if that can be the main problem. because my notebook has a 2GHz CPU with 1GB of RAM and 2GB of virtual memory.
DMX4ALL has an own processor which is responsible for generating the DMX-Signals. It also has a memory to store dmx-values internally. It is connected via USB2.
My ZAUDIGY-Soundcard is an PCMCIA-Card and DJ-Traktor Studio uses ASIO-Drivers with low latency. So booth interfaces also use different busses.
Looking at this values (Notebook capacity, Soundcard, DMX-Interface, and their connectivity to the notebook there does not have to bee a problem with the system-configuration it self. So i really further dont know what the problem might be.
regards,
djht

Try a 'longer' latency. Maybe your Computer can't handle the low latency while processing the DMX...PCMCIA-Card and DJ-Traktor Studio uses ASIO-Drivers with low latency.
