Enttec Open DMX long delay

Post by Blaize110 »

I have read some of the other threads but, im not sure, this sounds different to the other problems.

I have installed the drivers from the Enttec website and selected the dongle in freestyler. However when I change a channel in freestyler, it takes anything from a few seconds to about 30 seconds for the fixture to respond. I have changed the software to a simple LightsUp program and it works instantly so I beleive it to be freestyler.

This may be due to FS outputting all 512 channels, however woudnt this give a lesser and more constant delay as opposed to this erratic response?

Anyone got any ideas as to why this might be?

(Running Vista32 bit. Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM)

I am only running one fixure. A Smart Scan 2. Which, as I said works fine with LightsUp so i dont think its the cables, fixture or dongle.

Bir of an update.

I had a fiddle with the drivers. If I use the ones that Windows installs for me then LightsUp works fine and Freestyler works but delayed.
However if i install the ones on the enttec website [EDIT: I can install d2xx fine it is CDM2.02.04 that messes it up] , LightsUp doesnt recognise the interface anymore and Freestyler doesnt work.

Something what was interesting was that every time (not matter which driver i was using) i selected the Open DMX from the freestyler menu i got the Open Failed message. I THINK freestyler then didnt work with it after that message. However if i closed freestyler and reopened it without changing the interface, it would work but delayed (this is with the windows drivers)

I am currently asking enttec about their drivers and hopefully that's what it is. Because I know the windows drivers dont work perfectly with the Open DMX interface (though they appear to in LightsUp). But I cant get the enttec drivers to work...

It sounds like its a Com Port Conflict. The Enntec Open shows up on Windows as a Serial Com Port.
Plug in the interface, close any lighting control software and change the com port of the DMX interface.

in Device Manager, Ports, right-click on the serial port and choose
properties. Choose Port Settings tab, then Advanced, and change the
comport number.

Once you change the com port number, Reboot, (leaving interface pluged in) then launch FreeStyler First.

Also if the Other software sits in the system try or runs in the backround. Disable it. They may be fighting over the DMX port.
