Disable fades between step

Post by ErikPunt »

Dear Freestyler users

I'm using Freestyler to control my RGB Led Pars. Now when I create a new sequense I check the 'disable fades between step' option so there is no fade between the diverent colours (steps).
When I play the sequense in the editor it works fine, but if I save the sequense and play it from out the cue switcher it uses the fade (500 ms for example).

Is there somting I forget to do? Thanks for helping.

Grtz,
Erik

This feature´s purpose is to make the making of sequences easier/faster to do, so you don't have to wait for the fade time to see a new step in your sequence, when you are programming it. It has nothing to do with the sequences itself you are making.

when you are making a new sequence there will be a button next to (in your example) to the colour bars, it will say "Snap" "Fade" or "Off". if you are starting to make a new sequence the buttons will say "Off" witch mean that nothing is programmed on this channel for your light. When you are chancing the colour it will change to either "Snap" or "Fade" (cant remember witch one). if it stays on "Fade" it means it will fade to the new value on this channel from the previous value when the sequence goes to this step. the length and the fade time is controlled in the sequence window.

If the button is on "Snap" the value will change to the new value at once like you want it for your lights.

This is also described in the help file in the subjects "Create Seqence" and "Change values". There is also many other good descriptions of how to use Freestyler.... take a look

Ha gezellig, een nederlander erbij...!

I think I know were ErikPunt wants to go.
He thinks its a bug, but it is not.

So the next question is gonna be: Is there (or is it coming soon) a method of disabling all fades withing all steps, on all used DMX channels of a sequence.

Fortuitous I had the same problem last night. I was playing around with 4 pixeltracks (20 channel RGB mode) (offline in 3d easy view), and created a few sequences.
However, I created them all with fades enabled on all channels. Just like I want it to be.
But then I thought, I would like to have the same sequence in the cue window, but without the fade. Since there is no option for that, the only way is to open the sequence editor and edit all my 15 steps, each step disabling 20 fade buttons... Thats more than 300 mouseclicks...
I think this is where Erik wants to go with his question.

you only need to disable the fades in one of the steps and then press "save changes to all steps"..

Maybe it is easy to implement by setting the fade time to 0 seconds in the sequence window. at the moment the lowest value is ½ second

he mentioned "create a new sequence" so I dont think he wants to change a preveious sequence to snap in stead of fade. ;)

Oh my god! You just learned me something! Always thought that button saves all the data to all steps... I was wrong.

That would be a good idea, also then a few people gonna get happy because the fade time can be set a little faster than 500 msec.

I have now, for example, a chase with 4 scanners which I have programmed with a sine wave on the dimmer function and here is the 1/2 seconds fade time still too high for me  .

For under half a second, cant you just use snap,
Apart from LED, is there really many fixtures that can react under half a second?

I think not, but the number of LED fixtures is coming up really fast.
Although I kind of "hate" the LED-PAR's, I love things like the Showtec Pixeltrack Pro.
When I make chases on them, I uses fades most of the time, because snap is just to 'hard' with Led's.

With movement, absolutely not. With a dimmer (on 4 scans), yes :P

Snap function is to choppy.

Good news; just got an e-mail from Raph about the new version of FS that is in development right now.
Among others, 2 new features that are of interest for this topic, i think:
In the cue screen, each sequence has two new functions that can be enabled / disabled "React to tap/manual trigger" and "Disable all fades".

Thans for the answers on my question. And thanks to Ralph for building this great piece of software! Now I also understand the meaning of the 'snap' and 'fade' button :)

Grtz!
