Is there a way to create a DMX light/color organ?

Post by sea »

I am very new to Freestyler, using version 2.96f, I have 6 lights on 2 dimmer packs. I don't think sound to light does what I want. If not in Freestyler, is there other software, free or not?
I'm very glad to have midi support.
Thanks,
SEA

I know! This is very cool! My son and I are playing around with it right now. The reason we went with open DMX was because of the near limitless possibilities. I guess we just assumed a color/light organ would be one of those possibilities. Eventually I guess we could write something of our own in Python. I was just wondering if someone had already come up with a DMX color/light organ that we could use this weekend. If not there is still plenty to play with here. We sure appreciate all that has been put into this.

what do you mean a color light organ?

If you are talking about a box that you can pick any color from and hace your rgb fixtures respond, it has that..

Wow, 39 interested people have viewed this topic. I hope someone will have an answer soon.
If Freestyler can't already do this, is there a standard way for somone to make a plug in for Freestyler?
Wikipedia has some very interesting information about the history of color organs. Here's a basic definition.

A light organ separates an audio signal into a number of frequency bands or ranges and controls an equal number of light channels according to the average volume level of each band using dimmers.
So for instance,
the red light responds to the bass 20-120 Hz, soft bass = dim red light, loud bass = bright red light.
The orange light responds to 120 - 240 Hz.
The yellow light responds to 240 - 480 Hz.
The green light responds to 480 - 960 Hz.
The blue light responds to 960 - 1920 Hz.
And the purple light responds to 1920 - 20K Hz.

I hope that helps.
Have a great weekend everybody.
