Hi
I'm in a bit of a problem with DMX and come to workout that one universe isn't enough anymore. So decided that I need to move to Art-Net as I'm using so many DMX channels.
I'm thinking of getting this
http://dmxking.com/artnetsacn/edmx8-tx-rdm
But noticed that I need two Ethernet inputs from my laptop, so I'm going to need a Network switch, right?
Just wanted to know what you guys used and how reliable they are?!
Thanks

Re: Art-Net Equipment
hi nathan
i never used it but i know i will become the new standard for DMX (but take from me this will take allot of years as 5pin DMX also never realy becaume the new standard)
but YES its realy reliable its digital to in theory if the Artnet device misses data it can ask again to get the correct data. but if it miss 88uS of info nobody will notice this.
but i think you need a second ethernet card if you also like to internet of the WEB.
because artnet uses its own SUBMASK or SUBNET or something. its not that easy as you think.
but still artnet 2 can handle 254 differnt universes on one cable
in theory
and artnet 3 can handle up to 32,768 universes
so 16.777.216 dmx channels

Re: Art-Net Equipment
Hi Nathan, I use the DMX King eDMX-2. It works awesome. I have been using this for 18 months and never had a drama with it.
I have some diagrams on how to set it up. I will post the link here once I upload them somewhere. I think you would only need a eDMX-4. You can configure the device to output whatever universe you want to whatever port you want.
Being that Freestyler is only 2 Universe then you can output one universe through 2 ports and second through the other 2 or whatever combination you need.

I know where you are coming from but unfortunately I rarely use freestyler anymore, so naturally I'm using more than 2 universes because of the amount of fixtures and also pixel mapping at the same time. So naturally that's why I said the eDMX-8 not the eDMX-4.

Re: Art-Net Equipment
Oh ok.
Well, You can use it on anything that will output to Art-Net. It is a great device and you just need a switch for sending the data to the 2 units which is what the eDMX-8 essentially is.
