random question but does the freestyler application have enough power to run vr8's by abstract? only reason I ask is that everything else works fine apart from these.
im on the understanding that they run in reverse phase so have put the relevant converter on the dmx lead.
any help would be amazing as they come up on the list of fixtures but i get no response at all.

1) oke there are reverse phase, can you tell me how the reverse phase look like.
2) did you tried it with out the reverse phase
3) did you tried it to only connect the vr8 on the dasiy chaine ( without any other fixtures)

Re: running abstract vr8 on freestyler
Just buy or make some conversion cables that are wired for the lights and put them at the end of the DMX line (or make in and out conversion cables and put them wherever)

running abstract vr8 on freestyler
I have a bunch of old mad scans (and some older Martin fixtures) that need phase reverse, it is generally only some of the older pre 1997 lights after which things became a bit more standardised.
Anyways it is easiest to use something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PULSE-DMX-ADA ... 1045695577
And if you have other types of lights get a pair. This will allow you to reverse the cable phase for dmx signal through the vr8's and then back to normal for anything else you might use afterwards.
Just remember to mark them very clearly so in a years time when you or a helper dig them out the bottom of a case you will know what they are for, and not try and use it to extend something else that doesn't need reversing and wonder why it won't work!
It was not unheard of that some older users would 'DIY' fix by bodging inside the light so in rare cases it didn't need reversing.
You can test your converter by making sure pin 1 goes through to pin 1 with a continuity test (the multimeter bleepy one!), pin 2 to 3, and pin 3 to 2.
If it helps here's the manual for your lights http://www.sabretechnology.co.uk/pdfs/vr8rman.pdf you could also make sure the fixture file you are using matches up and the options are set on the light match the correct dmx address as in start address listed for the fixture in freestyler add/remove fixtures box.
