Multiple moving head follow spot

Post by Slick »

First off, feel free to laugh at my crude Paint drawing :)
I'm not sure what I want to do can actually be done. But I would like to manually control 2 moving head lights that are far apart from eachother to shine at the same point like a follow spot. Can this be done?

I did try this before myself using the joystick option, however found it is rather sensitive and if you let you go the moving heads go back to the center. It could work but all depends on how quick the X moves and how quick your reaction is to them moving, I've done it manually on desks and found it easy to do.

So with that being said it could be fairly easy if you have a play around and find what works for you. The other option would be if X is at set positions at certain times and you know them times, you could program the set positions and then go between them in submasters.

Good luck :)

I never figured this out as for example in your bottom left picture the left light pan would stay the same, but the right lights pan would move quite a bit to get to the bottom right.. But joystick would move them both the same.
I can only suggest a bunch of presets, and then just moving the 16bit (fine) adjustment for pan and tilt to together.

hi what you mean is Absolute so all fixtures will point the same way (same DMX value's)
you can also enable "Relative" on the pan/tilt window.

this way the fixtures will move relative from eachother ( all other dmx value's)

but still this will not work on the most outer range of the stage there will allways be a offset.

the only system i know that can do this cost more then 30,000 euro and need a transmitter on the person you like to follow and some receivers to look where the person is at and therby can calculate where the fixture needs to be.

Thank you all for the replies. Where can I get that 30,000 euro system? I'll take two! :P
Yeah I didn't think there was a way to do this but I wanted to confirm.
I will definitely use your suggestions to make it work as best as possible. Thank you!
