FS causing uDMX 512 to Disconnect

Using the inexpensive uDMX 512 interface

When on my laptop with Windows 8.1 x64, the device disconnects itself at random intervals of 10-30 seconds or so (I hear the "USB unplug" sound) then reconnects itself maybe 5 seconds later. I have a desktop with Windows 7 x64 and don't have this issue at all, same with my Windows 8.1 32 bit tablet. And I can't figure out why.


I've updated the BIOS on my laptop and re installed the drivers. Same thing.

I run a test show with FreeStyler 3.5.7 and have it change colors fast. When FS isn't doing anything (static) or it's not opened, I don't hear it disconnect.

The USB ports aren't shutting down by chance because they are "idle" for so long, there's always that chance.

Wouldn't having FS send signals to the lights make it not idle?

Strange update: Seems if I increase the speed of the show, it causes it to do it faster (as in if I run at 300% it takes like 5 seconds, where 100% takes longer).

Again, no issues on my Windows 8.1 tablet or desktop

Do you have any other usb devices attached at all?
This can be a problem especially on older usb2 sockets, as bandwidth and power have to be shared amongst devices.

Failing that sometimes manufacturers release chipset and other drivers that can help as windows update or install sometimes gets a slightly wrong version or a generic driver in place of manufacturers correct one.

I know 5 years have passed, but I recently bought a usb to DMX512 interface and also have the same problem mentioned above.
Has a solution already been found?
I use a 64 bit laptop with windows 10.
Next week I will host a small party using Freestyler and I hope it will be fixed by then.

your USB ports are turning off. You must uncheck "power saving" mode on every USB hub in your computers device manager.

I have already disabled USB ports turning off by the computer in the device manager as well as the power options. I can imagine it does not work for the udmx, because it has it's own menu in the device manager under 'LibusbK USB devices', but on the other hand it is still plugged into a USB port, so it should not make a difference...

Hi, I am having the same issue. It will disconnect on my newest windows 10 laptop, but if fine on my PC and older windows 10 laptop. It disconects only when I start sending DMX, it is fine if left on statically. I have tried diabling power saving mode but it hasn't changed anything. Did anyone ever find a solution to this as I would be veryh greatful if you could help me out!

Something simple to try.
When booting your PC, enter the BIOS setup and disable USB 3.0 support.
There will be no more USB 3.0, but at least USB devices will not disconnect anymore.

I have the same problem with udmx .
It makes disconnects and when you increase program speed it make it faster . Version 3 freestyler

I've got this same issue, but i cannot disable USB3.0 on my machine, it isn't an option as it just disables the entire USB hub.

I also changed to open dmx drivers hardware . uDmx stop working (make disconnects) with freestyler and can't find a solution.
