Monacore 510 (IMG Stage Line) DMX-510 USB: random flashing

Hi all! I'm new to all this, so apols if this is something daft... Hopefully this is the right place to post.

I've just bought a Monacore 510 (IMG Stage Line) DMX-510 USB. It works fine with the 'packaged' software, which unfortunately is a bit rubbish, so I'd like to run other software such as FreeStyler.
Only problem is, if I run any other software other than its own, the LED PAR Can 64's start flashing randomly - they respond fine to all the other commands, but just flash randomly by themselves.

I've also tried 'DMXControl' and the same thing happens!

- so I guess the hardware is ok, because its ok with its own software?
- I'm just hooking up two par cans at the moment, and I'm using a terminator just in case.
Running windows 7, 64-bit O/S. Running in Administrator mode, and have tried XP SP3 compatibility mode.

Any ideas? I so hope this is something daft!
