Synchronizing Music & Light

Post by TalJ »

Hi,

I have been using FreeStyler for quite a while now, and am VERY happy!
Last month we had a talent show and we used premade sequences and triggered them with the manual trigger (we synchronized it to each performance in real time).

Last week we just got two new fixtures (Showtec Explorer 575 Spot), AMAZING! They are so insanely bright, they light up the whole stage, just the two of them!

Well, graduation is coming up and I have been requested to put together light shows to go with some of the music. In the past, I have always made steps and just synchronized them to the music by running them in a sequence with the manual trigger. This is very difficult to do and very error prone. I have tried timing the scenes using the 'scene time' in the sequence builder, but it simply will not work perfectly.

I have read some information about a Winamp plugin that lets you set steps according to the music. Such a solution would be great. Can someone please specify how to do this? Which versions do I need to download of Winamp, and where can I get the plugin and how to use it.

If you have another solution, please let me know!

Thanks in advance,
TalJ

I see,
Do you have any suggestion on how to synchronize the lights to the music?
We have a brand new lighting console, Showtec Scanmaster 2 MKII. I can set up 240 steps and 8 chases.
However, it is not possible ot set different times between each step, its either manual, or the same time is set between them, or using music/midi triggering. How would I go about the midi triggering in Freestyler? I've heard that if I were to set the times as midi notes, then I can get freestyler to trigger the scenes according to the note recieved. Is this possible?
Thanks in advance,
TalJ

If no one does it can be made for a fee via our fixture profile building service!

I believe the fixture for the showtec explorer 575 is in the complete fixture library. I'm sure I've seen it somewhere, it can be found here:

Couple of options for you.
I have seen but not used midi via cubase synchronised to music/video, using a combination of sequences and overrides.
Use the Virtual Dj pluggin to synchronise with freestyler.
