Hello Everyone!
I've been lucky enough to get myself a job in a Fantastic nightclub in Edinburgh.
Lights are controlled via Freestyler (and freestyler remote). We also have a massive Plasma Screen Wall at the back of the stage (5x5 40inch screens).
What I'd like to do is make a sequence up in the usual way but at the start of the sequence a signal is sent to VLC Player or some other Media player to start a video file (which then plays on the Plasma screen).
Anyone got any ideas? Would be a great addition to already great software!
Start MP4 Video from Freestyler

Re: Start MP4 Video from Freestyler
Unless the software could receive and decode DMX, not sure how.....I'd be interested in seeing what others have to say.

Re: Start MP4 Video from Freestyler
There is some pretty advanced VDJ software called Resolume that acts much like a media server. You can set it up like a fixture so that triggering a FS sequence sends a signal to the DMX input of an Enttec USB dongle connected to your video computer. That inturn triggers the video clip to play. There may be some less expensive options our there so hopefully someone else will know. Probably also good to stalk some of the many online VDJ forums.

Re: Start MP4 Video from Freestyler
I'm thinking along the lines of Virtual DMX fixture that has 255 videos (1 to 255)... I studied computing at uni a VERY long time ago and I'm thinking that there's probably a clever chap somewhere that could do this.
Instead of the fixture speaking to the USB dongle it speaks to another bit of software (i'm having horrible memories of .DLL files and the like).
In other words a really really simple Open Source based Media Server. Almost certain VLC player can be command line driven. Freestyler sends the command line and the filename to windows which then starts VLC player. That must be easy!
VLC player has a similar Android Remote control.... even if the video was started from freestylers remote I would be a happy chappy!
Think Lightfactory can do this but I'm not in the mood to give up on Freestyler I've been using it for years
Thinking hats is firmly placed on... whose up for a race to see who can get it done first!

Re: Start MP4 Video from Freestyler
Use resolume arena. I am setting up a DMX Map that should only use 40 channels instead of 127.
Will advise soon.
