Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Hi, I am working through creating a Stairville MH-575 S MkII moving head.
According to the spec sheet, I can rotate the Gobo AND rotate the gobo Wheel.
Channel 7 = Gobo wheel
0…15 White, no gobo
16…31 Gobo 1
32…47 Gobo 2
48…63 Gobo 3
64…79 Gobo 4
80…95 Gobo 5
96…111 Gobo 6
112…127 Gobo 7
128…191 Rotation clockwise, speed decreasing
192…255 Rotation counterclockwise, speed increasing
Channel 8 = Rotation of the gobo wheel
0…127 Index position (0° to 360°)
128…191 Rotation clockwise, speed decreasing
192…255 Rotation counterclockwise, speed increasing
In fixture creator there is an option to assigning a channel number for gobo rotation - SO I would put channel 8 in here - but then I lose the option to rotate the gobo. SO to get these, do I create some macros for the "Missing" rotation values in channel 7, using some preset values which will then appear as some extra presets below the gobo selection window in Freestyler
OR do I create "dummy" gobos with variable spin rates.
There are also colour wheel "changes" (i.e. the wheel will rotate at variable speed) at the higher end of the colour wheel channel, SO either I have to create some pre-set colour spin rate as further colour options OR create macros at pre set spin rates and have these as options under colour?
I want to make it obvious in freestyler what is being selected so not sure if the Dummy Gobo/Colour is the way to go, or the macro is the way to go - Please can I have some advice.
Apologies if this reads complicated.
Thank you

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
hi
this doesnt realy matter you can use the macro's with the "show in" feature.
or add the spinning rate behind the other gobo's/color's

OK Thanks,
I just thought Id post this as a new fixture for others to use, so wanted to create one that everyone else would expect

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Just another thought/question.
On the Gobo control panel in FS there is a slider for the gobo rotation allowing the speed to be varied.
(This must be linked to the channel ID underneath the Gobo field in fixture designer)
is there a way to get "more" rotation sliders, rather than fixed values for the other rotations available.
Thanks

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Not sure why you say this isnt relevant - why would you not want to be able to select the speed on a slider, Ok you may use a number of presets, but this would always be a subset of those available, whereas a slider you could choose the speed you like?
At the moment I only have gobo and prism rotation speed , but I could also have colour wheel speed and Gobo change speed (i.e the speed at which the gobo and colours wheel moves.)
If it need FS to be enhanced to allow more sliders, then I will have to wait,
but if there is some feature within macros to present the selection as a slider then I need to learn more about macros
Thanks

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
I don't know if you have had a look here.
http://www.freestylersupport.com/wiki/f ... oving_head
http://www.freestylersupport.com/wiki/f ... figuration
As I hear you then you want to add more faders to the same channel and that is a bit problematic.
You have the fadet available in the top of the gobo panel. And you then use gobo or macro to place the fader at min, mid or max value. You can the fine adjust from these points with the fader.

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
hi and still its not relevant
Thats because its allready possible to adjust the Color/gobo scroll speed.
if you create a Sequence..
and your fixture have as example 10 gobo''s and color''s
now you can create a Sequence and on each step you add a other gobo / color.
now if you play this back with the CUE window you can adjust the speed with the speed slider form FS...

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Thank you Jan - the Macro guide will be very useful.
Spirit - If I understand what you are suggesting, then you recommend using multiple steps to move through the colour wheels and/or the gobos and then controlling the speed of the steps with the cue window.
This ignores the fixtures built in ability to spin the gobo and colour wheel at a controlled spped, also I would need to program the steps in the correct order of the gobos and colours otherwise the wheel will spin back and forth trying to display the gobo/colour I have chosen.
As I am still learning and it is good advice from you, but I wonder if there could be a future enhancement to FS which allows more slider controls, there are rotation controls for gobo1 and gobo2 and prism, but maybe some more would be useful.
Also the feature of prism rotation which can be limited to a specific range of DMX within a channel would be ideal for these other controls.
Perhaps macros which become a button to a single value could become a slider controlling a range of values within a channel.
Would you recommend I post this in future enhancements section?

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Hej again.
Have a look on some of these fixtures they may give you a way to fit the fixture.
There will come more fixtures next week when I upload the next additional fixture library.
Regarding feature reguest for more faders then I think they will be place in the nice to have catagory and thereby low priority by the developer.
This means that it will not solve your problem right now.

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
and that why i say its not relevant.
thats because you can allready create the Feature you like to have.
as like the Strobe speed, Prism Rot, Gobo Rot, cant be Made by a Sequences...because these are Fixture channels...
and these Windows/sliders arent used durry a Live a show.
you need to create sequences and use them for your live show...
also the Color / Gobo Sequences i recommed to create a Made in a Couple of Min.
and if you use the FX they can be made in a Couple of SEC...

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Thank you Jan I will look at these over the weekend.
I understand about the faders being low priority, I seem to have some unusual lights - you may also notice I have another question about fixtures for some LEDJ lights (Blockbuster6 and Stratos wash)
These have difficult to program features the Red Green and Blue Channels become speed, flash etc. when the light is in different modes, but that is a different topic........
My plan is to find the most useful speeds and create these as presets (macros) and show them in what I consider the most appropriate window.
Thanks again

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
There is nothing special with the Stairville MH but I thingk you want to build the fixture a special way.
The other fixtures that shift function on the channels is difficult to create a good fixture for.

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Thanks Jan, But this is a MH-575 S MK II
The Channels are :
Channel Value Function
1 0…255 Pan (0° to 540°)
2 0…255 Tilt (0° to 270°)
3 0…255 Pan and tilt speed, fast to slow
4 0…255 Dimmer (0 % to 100 %)
5 Shutter / shake
0…7 Blackout
8…15 Open
16…131 Shutter, speed increasing
132…185 Open
186…239 Shake, speed increasing
240…247 Shutter, random speed
248…255 Open
6 Colour wheel
0…12 White
13…25 Green
26…38 Magenta
39…50 Light blue
51…63 Yellow
64…76 Red
77…88 Blue
89…101 ‘UV’ purple
102…114 Light green
115…127 Pink
128…191 Rotation clockwise, speed decreasing
192…255 Rotation counterclockwise, speed increasing
7 Gobo wheel
0…15 White, no gobo
16…31 Gobo 1
32…47 Gobo 2
48…63 Gobo 3
64…79 Gobo 4
80…95 Gobo 5
96…111 Gobo 6
112…127 Gobo 7
128…191 Rotation clockwise, speed decreasing
192…255 Rotation counterclockwise, speed increasing
8 Rotation of the gobo wheel
0…127 Index position (0° to 360°)
128…191 Rotation clockwise, speed decreasing
192…255 Rotation counterclockwise, speed increasing
9 Prism
0…85 White, no prims
86…170 Prism effect 1
171…255 Prism effect 2
10 Prism rotation (for prism effect 1 and 2)
0…9 No rotation
10…120 Rotation clockwise, speed decreasing
121…134 No rotation
135…245 Rotation counterclockwise, speed increasing
245…255 No rotation
11 Focus
12 Iris/zoom (maximum to minimum aperture)
0…10 Maximum aperture
10…26 Zoom from 0 to 100 %
27…255 Iris (maximum to minimum aperture)
13 0...255 Fine pan
14 0...255 Fine tilt
15 Special settings
0…130 Normal operation
131…139 Lamp on
140…200 Reserved
201…209 DMX reset
210…230 Reserved
231…239 Lamp off
240…255 Reserved
So you see in addition to a specific Gobo Rotation channel and a specific prism rotation Channel,
the higher values in the gobo select channel and the colour select channel make the unit rotate through the gobo/colour at variable speed and clockwise/anit-clockwise
Makes it hard to program the fixture, So I will have to choose some useful preset values and put them in Macros.
N.B, the gobo rotation channel make the Gobo itself rotate - not the gobo Wheel,
Thank you for you advice.

Re: Help creating Stairville MH-575 S MkII
Thanks again Jan,
That really did give me ideas on how to manage the variable spin of the gobos and colour.
It will take me a while to incorporate these into the fixtures, so I will upload as soon as I have completed them and tested them.
Should I post them here or in the user defined fixtures section?

In the user created fixture section.
That is where others will look for it.
You can eventually make a link in this post to the one you make with the fixture.
