LED Par64 cans strobe

Post by kposch »

Hey there,
I'm brand new to this, but I've been looking over a lot of forums and spending hours learning the software, but I still can't figure out how to do the strobe effect I'm looking for.

I have 4 LED Par64 cans uploaded into the program. I want to use the chase effect where the only color is white (like a strobe light) and I want to have can1 flash on then off, then can2 flash on then off and so on. Then repeat through the cycle at a rapid pace. If I could get some basic help, or even a rundown if possible that would be great. Thank you!

hi you just need to Create a Sequence

Step 1=
Par 1 = 255
par 2 = 0

Step 2 =
Par 1 = 0
Par 2 = 255

Now save it and play it back from the cue window..
and with the speed slider you can set the speed.

ONLY! if your Ledpar doesnt have a Normal Strobe channel it will never look like a Real strobe.
Because DMX ist fast enough, to let look like a Strobe..
thats way fixtures have there own Strobe channel..

kposch, you can also use the FX generator in the Sequence creator, there you can generate chases, cascades and such. Test the Pulse option if you want a bit of fade between the steps. The Pulse option also has the advantage that it sets the effected channels to Fade and not to Snap automatically, and on Intensity and RGB channels, the sequences must be programmed as Fade to work in submasters (if that hasnt changed in FS 3.5, havent tested yet but sure hope so;) )
But, if your not gonna run with submasters, that doesnt matter.. :)

Depending on how you are going to control you show, there are different ways you should/could program your sequences.
If your Par cans have a Dimmer channel, you could progam this chase to just control the dimmer channel, and set the colors with other sequences or override buttons. If not, then you program it to control all three RGB channels, to get the color you want.

Also, if you want to have one light go on and then go off completly before the next one turns on, you would have to manually make or change the sequence that the FX generator gives you.
Also, it is not easy to get a nice strobe look from LED cans and such, play around with Pulse, and maybe empty steps between the steps were the lights are turned on.

You could program a chase on the dimmer channel or RGB channels, 4 steps long, that just turns on and off the lights in a series, like Spirit suggested, and then use the Strobechannel on the Par cans, if yours have them (always get cans that has a strobe and a dimmer channel, much more fun) to get a nice strobe effect by playing with the speed of the strobe. Either you program that in the same sequence, or perhaps better, in a separate one that only controls the strobe channel.

Spirit, I actually got an almost rather nice strobing effect with 4 lasers;) I programmed the sequence at 0.1s steptime, and played it at max speed :P Not quite a good strobe though;)
