Colorstrip-Is there a way to lock a channel to a set value?

Post by Dr.Ew »

Hey everyone,
I have built several fixtures, ranging from AmericanDJ scanners to simple RGB pars, after trial and (lots of) error, I've managed to get them working. I but I am wrestling with one part of a specific fixture.

I have a few Chauvet Colorstrips that I want to use ONLY as a RGB fixture, but because it has a ton of different settings, it is easy to end up in a different mode from the RGB mode.
To oversimplify it, it uses 4 channels:
Channel 1: Can set multiple chase effects, values 210-219 enables RGB mode
Channel 2,3,4: RGB

I built the fixture so that Ch 1 defaults to 215, so starting up everything is fine. The problem I run into is that when selecting multiple fixtures in Freestyler, occasionally I'll end up accidentally modifying channel 1, taking the fixture out of the RGB mode, at which point the Colorstrips do any number of eye-catching tricks... which I'd like to avoid.
Is there any way in FixtureCreator to lock Channel 1 so that it cannot go outside of the 210-219 range (or just stay at 215)? I've monkeyed around, but can't spot an obvious way to do it. Perhaps the min/max settings on Iris/focus/frost? Any ideas?

Thanks all! I appreciate any thoughts you might have!
Drew

hi

First of all Be carefull what you do ;)
And maby the Min/max feature with in freestyler will work but i'm not sure.
Here's my Colorstrip fixture file. Yeah, the icon is pretty plain, but I've got 150+ fixtures on a single monitor... anything more and it gets too busy visually!
you can also enable the ZONE feature on the Freestyler setup his way you can Set differnt fixture's on Different Zone s (Tabs) so you have allot less Fixture on one Zone (Tab)

As to my plain icon, I've got all the fixtures laid out in a rough representation of their physical layout, it makes creating chases easier while still giving me an overall view (without having to use Easyview). I may end up using zones eventually.

One thing I thought of trying would be to try splitting the fixture like I've seen some people do with the larger, multisegment Megabars. Perhaps like this:

Create a 1 channel fixture "Colorstrip Control", set to default the only channel to 215.
Create a 3 channel RGB fixture "Colorstrip RGB" that would be channels 2,3,4.

Care would have to be used to only add the two fixtures as a pair, with the "Control" fixture set as the starting address. Perhaps I could set the RGB side of the fixture into my normal layout where I could select and modify the RGB (Ch 2,3,4), and place the "Control" part of the fixture in an area where I would be unlikely to addidentally modify it. Since the "Control" fixture would default to 215 and is set to not respond to the master fader, it seems like that might make it harder to accidentally modify it.

Or does that sound like madness?

No its sound realy logic to me.
that would be the way to add the RGB fixture on a Place so you can easly make your sequences.
and add the Control fixture to a place where you cant change the value by mistake.
