Works but Untidy

Post by Alchemist »

This is one of 5 lights my son uses for parties and my first attempt at fixture creation. I'm hooked :fs:

Of course I started with a 10 channel light! It's a Chinese generic moonflower similar to the RevoIII.
7 heads with 7 colour settings per head on channels 4 to 10.
Channel 1 is preset programs with 18 (might actually be 17, my head was spinning at the time).
Channel 2 is preset pattern speed, and channel 3 is strobe.

I made the fixture and it actually works! The perfectionist in me wants to be pointed in the right direction to do it properly, and how I can tidy up/organise the macros into rows; seperate row per channel.
Be ruthless, I can take it.

Hej Alchemist

Have been looking a bit on the fixture.

If you have the DMX table then upload it. (If paper then scan it)

You have enamled RGB segments but not confirured it.

And macros there you have entered all values using formula.
That its a possible way but not the intention of formula.

I think you can benefit from looking on the wiki.

Uploaded the PDF, that's all there was; seriously!

I have read the wiki and will freely admit to being overwhelmed. It's good that you have pointed me at the segments I need to concentrate on for this light; I now know which really apply as opposed to might apply. I was obviously on the right path at sometime, as I played around with RGB segments, I'll return to that bit and study more.
I am used to whizzing sliders up and down and recording scenes by stabbing buttons. The terminology was "slide it to about here and press that button". I now have to re-educate myself with formulas, macros, segments etc. The ease of use in making scenes and chases make it worthwhile though.

I prefer to learn than be given the answer, so if you know of an existing fixture, either don't tell me, or expect me to break it taking it apart to see how it ticks!

Just some small comments.

You have given it the Manufacturer name "Generic".
That is not a god name as everyone expect it to be one that fits all fixture of this type.

Also the icons you are using. they are in different sizes.
If you keep them in 30x30 pixel then they line up nicely.

And here are a short example of how to arrang the icons and using the macro.

Thank you for your help Jan_K. The rearranging of the macro icons , adding the blanks, made all the difference.

I used the name 'Generic' as I do not know the manufacturer, even running a Google search with the model name only brought up the store where I bought it from. However, I've changed the name to 'Unknown'; which probably isn't any better!
I also had a bash at changing some of the macros over to the Gobo, which made sense to me at the time but has not really altered anything. The light is working perfectly and is now neat, tidy and understandable. I've uploaded the latest .pff just so you can give it the tick of approval, or throw it back with a '2 out of ten, see me after class' note.

I'm now moving on to a Sonken Megabar that can be operated in 3, 6, 12, 24 or 48 channel mode. I'm following Onge's guide in the Wiki that covers the ADJ 11 channel bar.
Once again, thank you for your assistance.

It looks ok.

There can always be a discussion about if it is optimal to use the beam faderes or the faders in the faderpanel in the right side of the FreeStyler panel.

But to me it is what suits you best that matters
