Can I do this?

Post by vmdjs »

Hi Gang,

Okay, I'm a total newbie to DMX and Freestyler, so please forgive me if I ask one of those "duh" questions.

We are working on uplighting to offer our clients. We are starting small, and then working our way up. We have purchased 16 of the Eliminator Electro86 par cans. I have successfully created a fixture profile for them and have them working perfectly with FS. So that part I'm fine on.

I have the lights on 2 separate channels, so that we can alternate them in the room when we set them up. This way if the client wants the room all one color, we can do that, or if they 2 colors, we can do alternating lights around the room (red, blue, red, blue, etc.). I have this part of the project working perfectly too. So far, so good.

Now, here is where I have a question and have no idea where to start. In addition to using the lights as uplighting, we also want to use them as signals to indicate that some kind of event is going to take place. The lights have a strobe function, but that is NOT what I'm looking for, I'm more interested in using their intesity function.

For these fixtures, intensity is handled on channel 4 with a range of 0 (0%) to 189 (100%). What I would like for the lights to do is, on command, for the lights to sequence from 0 to 189 over a period of 3-4 seconds, then repeat and continue repeating until I tell it to stop. So from the guest perspective, the lights would go out, and then get gradually brighter and brighter until they reach 100%, and then go out again. Hope that makes sense.

So is this possible in FreeStyler, and if so can someone point me in the right direction?

Many thanks!!!!!

Bryan

Hi, bryan

oke then its time to learn the "Sequence creator"
Go and look at this page : http://www.freestylersupport.com/wiki/c ... ce_creator

Now the most importent thing you need to look at it how The Channel is recorded on the Sequence.

First you will see that all the channels Says "OFF" this means that the Channel is NOT recorded on the seqeunce. if you drag a Channel , lets say Dimmer/Intensitie channel it change to "FADE"
This means the Step will be Recorded as a nice FADE.
If you press on the FADE buttons its changes to SNAP.
This means it will jump from ONE value to the Next Value.

So you make a Sequence, that says.
Step1: 189 "Fade"
Step2: 0 "Snap"

Also you need to add the Scene/Fade time to Each step.
Step1: Scene/Fade time to 3000 For 3sec or 4000 for 4sec.
Step2: This depant on you, This can be the same Step1. or Scene/Fade time on 500/100 so realy fast just take a look and see what happin.

Now if you happy with it you can Save it and add it to the CUE window. and play it back.

Spirit!

YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!! Thanks to the info you provided, I was able to set up this sequence in a matter of just a few clicks of the mouse. In fact, I set up 4 different sequences in less than 5 minutes!!!! I now have:

A sequence to fade channel 1 lights only.
A sequence to fade channel 2 lights only.
A sequence to fade channel 1 and 2 lights at the same time.
A sequence to fade channel 1 and 2 lights alternating.

This is friggin awesome!!!! As I said earlier, I am just starting out on DMX stuff, but being successful as things like this makes me want to learn more and more!!!!

Thanks again!!!!!!

B.
