Submaster Help / Suggestions

Post by Koshy »

I am looking for some advice on the best way to setup my freestyler to run shows.

Sub masters seem to be were its at, but I didn't know the best way to set them up with all my different fixture types. Any help on this would be great.

I have read the tutorial but it only lists for 4 fixtures of the same type. I was looking for advice before i reprogram everything

on a side note, I am wanting to get a BFG2000 or Akia APC 40 to run freestyler. Advice ?

I do small concerts, festivals, electronic music events and rock bars.
I have edited almost all the fixture files and created macros etc.

Fixtures
4 ADJ 250 Scanners
2 ADJ vizi Moving heads ( Has rotation, 3,5,10 facet prism )
8 Par 38's
6 Led Rain
6 Color Pallets
2 Flat Tri Pars ( soon to be 12 )
1 RGB laser
1 RBY laser
2 vertical foggers
1 hazer

Currently when I add a fixture I have to redo all my override buttons and sequences to add the fixture.
I will make say 60 scene sequences and then edit them on the fly with custom Over ride buttons.

Link to a screen shot of my setup. http://i.imgur.com/DTfwv.jpg

Hey Koshy

It looks Great from the Picture, Only the submasters i have learned to do it a Little bit ;) differnt..
Because there are some Hiden Features under the Submasters, you cant see them it just the way of programming.

Also i do know how You like to Play everything back.

And about the midi devices BFG? Do you not mean BCF2000.
The BCF2000 Works Realy nice Just Plug and Play. (Only do not forget the driver ;) )
And so far as i see its realy hard to get the APC working with freestyler, allthough its possible only i dont have the APC so can Findout how to do that.

And maby a Backup and Loaction File would be nice to have this way i can see How the fixture works.

Oke Well where am i going to start ;)

Oke first you need to Know How Channels can Act by LTP or HTP.
Read this page and it will give you a idea: http://www.freestylersupport.com/wiki/d ... tp_and_htp

With Freestyler allmost ALL the Channels act like HTP.
ONLY if a Fixture only got a RGB channels then RGB will act as HTP
IF the fixture got a Dimmer/Intensitie channel Then the Dimmer will act as HTP.
ledpars that haves a Dimmer/Intensitie and RGB channel, then the DIMMER will act as HTP and RGB as LTP.

if you look at the Submasters you see that next to each Selectbox you have a Slider (Submaster intensitie slider) If you add a Sequence that Haves a Dimmer or RGB channel recorded on it.
You can set the Brightness From that Sequence with the Slider.
This can be a Static sequence or a Chase.

Oke try that first and see if you get that to work.

THANK You so much for the help so far.

I think I am going to start from scratch and reprogram everything. There are a lot of sequences that are not organized .

I saw this picture and seems a lot better way of doing things. Seems more like how a real console would work. I like the "groups" for fixtures but I dont fully understand the submaster colums and how they would apply to my fixtures. In this picture it has 2 pan submasters download/file.php?id=948&mode=view

Could you tell me what headings I should have for each submaster ? :D :D
I would just like to do this correctly the first time. I have done it on my own in the past and I keep having to reprogram everything.

So far what I am thinking and correct any of my faults. ( it may all be wrong )

Page 1/5
1= MH Pan / Tilt (should these be brazier Shapes and Still X/Y Coordinates )
2= MH Color
3= MH Gobo
4= MH Rotation & prism
5= Par Color

Page 6 /10
1= Scanner Pan Tilt
2= Scanner Color
3= Scanner Gobo
4= Color Pallet programmed shows

Would it be like this or would i put the MH and the scanner colors/ gobos in the same submaster
(the 8 Smaller pars nor the color pallets have dimmers )

Where would I put strobes ??

Sorry If im a bugging you.. I just want to get it right

i dont mind if you bugging me.
Quastion regarding, HOW to program are the Quastions i like.

And you never Ready with how you pragrammed you lightdesk, Each Show is differnt and each time you learn new things.

I also still Create each show everytime over and over.

But you like to controll the Scans and Movingheads Seperate.
Thats ok.

How do i programm everything:
I use the Override buttons For STATIC values so, Strobe, Color, Gobo, GoboRot, Iris, IrisRot, Prism, PrismRot.

And i also Create everything Per Fixture, the same as how you did it.
One page with "ALL", "MH", "Scan" and on.....

i Use the submaster For Multipule Stepped Sequences. and Sequence that have Intensitie channel or RGB channel on it.

This is how i do it. Most of the Times, But there are So much differnt way to programm you lights.
Page 1/5
1= MH Pan (Pan) this is to give a Random Movingment
2= MH Tilt (Tilt) this is to give a Random Movingment
3= MH Shapes (Pan /Tilt)
4= MH Static Positions (Pan /Tilt)
5= MH Dimmer

Page 6 /10
1= Scan Pan (Pan) this is to give a Random Movingment
2= Scan Tilt (Tilt) this is to give a Random Movingment
3= Scan Shapes (Pan /Tilt)
4= Scan Static Positions (Pan /Tilt)
5= Scan Dimmer

Page 11 / 15
1= Led Dimmer (iff the led gots his own Dimmer channel)
2= Led chases

But you can also do
1= Dimmer odd
2= Dimmer Even
or
1= Dimmer
2= Dimmer Chase
Now you can get realy nice effect that uses HTP.

and why do i use 4 Submaster for Pan/Tilt.
1= MH Pan (Pan) this is to give a Random Movingment
2= MH Tilt (Tilt) this is to give a Random Movingment
3= MH Shapes (Pan /Tilt)
4= MH Static Positions (Pan /Tilt)

if i playback 1 and 2 you will get a Random movements, that can look nice.
if i playback 3 it will just play the shape.
and if i playback 4 it will Fade Smooth to the static Position.
So i will get a Smooth fade between 1,2 / 3 / 4

and offcourse you can also add Gobo and colors to the Submasters.
but i allways use so much submasters i cant add the Color and gobos to it.

but i would say First go and try differnt ways of Programming and Playing back.
so you can find the Best way that will work for you.

I have 2 questions.
I do not understand how to do

Page 1/5
1 = MH Pan (pan) this is to give a random movement

I dont understand how to program this to be a random movement ?

For the Dimmer Submaster would the cue list look like this?
MH 100%
MH 75%
MH 50%
MH 25%
MH 0 %

I am understanding submasters alot better now, and realize that you may have different submasters for different types of shows and that i can load up different submasters while running the show.
I really love how it fades to the next sequence when you use a submaster instead of being choppy and cutting to the next sequence.. I feel this is going to help take my shows to the next level

hej koshy
Page 1/5
1 = MH Pan (pan) this is to give a random movement
I mean with this is IF you play A MH pan and MH tilt at the same time.
and the Speed from One of the two Submaster is Differnt it will give a Offset in the Steps.

And it also the Idea to Allways run a MH pan AND MH tilt at the same time.
so if it plays on the same speed you have.
MH pan = Step1, Step2, Step3 and on..
MH Tilt = Step1, Step2, Step3 and on..
So it wil run the same shape over and over.
Now if you Change the speed from ONE submaster you get
MH pan = Step1, Step2, Step3 and on..
MH Tilt = Step1, Step1, Step2 and on..
so you get a Offset and There for you get a Random Shape.
AS EXAMPLE:
Create a Seqeunce with the FX (SINE, TILT) and a other one (SINE, PAN) also Do not Forget to ALLWAYS iff you create a Pan/tilt Sequence to add Manualy the 16BIT To the Sequence if the Fixture Gots a 16 Bit pan/tilt.
And also be awere to ONLY Record the Pan to a pan Sequence and TILT to a Tilt sequence.
and with Static postions and Chapes allways add the Pan and Tilt to these Sequences.
For the Dimmer Submaster would the cue list look like this?
MH 100%
MH 75%
MH 50%
MH 25%
MH 0 %
No you can just Create a Sequence with ONE step That says DIMMER/INTENSITIE 255 (Full on)
Now if you add this to a Cue and then to the Submaster you can Set the Brightness From that Sequence with the Slider thats Next to the Corresponding Submaster.

So you get
MH dimmer (1step)
MH Chase (More steps, a Sequence that loops all the Light on and off)
