Hi everyone,
I will start by saying that I have NEVER touched lighting control software before.
Have found it a little confusing so far.
That why I am here.
Basically I work in the residential lighting industry. We are setting up a display room in disguise as a media room at work(to show what the product actually do).
I have been asked to have a look into doing something with DMX.
Basically the way we decided to go is:
- Enttec DMX USB Interface
- DMX to RGB Decoder
- Basic RGB led light strip
I am fairly certain that everything is functional.
I am just not sure on how I need to create the device to get the desired effect.
Bacially I want to be able to control fading times, colours and brightness.
Any assistance on doing this would be great.
I managed to have a go, but I think I'm in WAY over my head with this one.
Thanks
Farhaan

Hi Jan K,
Unfortunately the DMX decoder did not come with any DMX Table.
This is why I am having a little trouble getting it to work.
Any thought on a solution at all?
Thanks
Farhaan

What exactly is the name / make / model of the decoder? There should be some kind of documentation for it online. Or the person / company that sold it should have some detailed info on it. Also, what lights are you connecting to this thing? Give us more info and we will help.

Re: Newbie need assitance
I will only be running some RGB LED strip lighting from th decoder.
I will be looking at a decoder with more outputs at a later stage but for now just to get the hang of things this is what im using.
Im not sure the actual brand of the decoder that i bought.
But i did mamage to find one online that looks exactly the same.
http://www.usledsupply.com/shop/rgb-4a-dmx-decoder.html.
I will speak to the people that i bought it from and see if they can supply me with anymore details of the unit.
Thanks

Re: Newbie need assitance
Hej again.
Looking in the data sheet for this device there are stated that it uses 3 DMX channels.
I will guess that it is RGB control.
As you are working with light normally then I assume that you have connected the LED strip and the decoder correct.
As I read the data sheet you can test it by turning on the “FUN” switch then it should make a stand alone effects.
So the first thing you are to do is to make a fixture for the decoder.
You are to open Fixture creator and follow this tutorial.
http://www.freestylersupport.com/wiki/f ... arcan:arc1
When you have made the fixture, then in FreeStyler you are to add the fixture you created.
If this is the only thing you have on the DMX then set the address on the DMX decoder to 1. (The dip switches)
In FreeStyler the fixture you add must have the same number.
And you should be able to control it.

Re: Newbie need assitance
I made a 3 channel LED Strip fixture for you to try. It is untested because I don't have your equipment, but it should work. So you will want to double click on the attached .pff file after you download it. It will then be imported into your Freestyler Fixture library. You can close Fixture Creator after it opens up to show you the file. Open Freestyler, click SETUP, ADD/Remove Fixtures, scroll down the fixture list until you see "LED Strip 3 ch". Double click it and then use the right arrow (>) to add it to your fixtures. Set it to address 1, click ADD, then close. Now you should be able to select the LED strip and start using Freestyler to program your color fades.
Not sure if you have a DMX dongle yet, but in order for you to control the LED strips with Freestyler, you will need something like the Enttec Open DMX USB interface or the Enttec Pro so that the pc will be able to communicate to the decoder.
I hope this helps!

Re: Newbie need assitance
Hi Shannon D,
I have managed to get it working with Jan K's tutorial.
Seems as though i was pretty close but didnt know what to do with a couple of things.
Have it fully functioning and I am now playing with Sound 2 Light.
BTW I am using an Enttec dmx pro.
Thanks to both of you for helping.
Will post up a link to a video of what I have done when I have a bit more time to work with it.
Thanks again.
