Laptop recommendation

Post by spdj20 »

I've been running Freestyler on my Macbook Pro C2D for the past year and I've noticed I run into issues with the DMX output when running through Parallels (lights start acting eradically, signal drops, etc) which can be fixed by restarting Windows (not the best time to be doing that during sets) It's also not that easy to jump back and forth between FS and Serato not to mention running both really taxes my mac.

So I decided to borrow a windows laptop to see how much better Freestyler runs on a standalone laptop. The difference was night and day. No eradic movements, no signal drops, no errors. So I've decided to purchase a laptop for no other reason but to run Freestyler, which means I'm looking to spend as little money as possible to have a laptop capable of running it. The laptop will be loaded with Windows 7 Pro, and I use the Enttec Pro for my interface which I was told cuts down the processing required by the computer significantly.

So my question is what would be decent laptop specs to run Freestyler. I've seen the minimum requirements but from your guys experience what works best?

The laptop I borrowed was a Dell Latitude D630 with a 1.8GHz Core2Duo with 2 GB RAM. That worked fine but I'm not looking to spend that much.

I was thinking something along the lines of a Intel Centrino processor with 1-2 GB RAM. Would that be enough with Freestyler and Windows 7?

Any other recommendations?
