this software just doesnt work

I have to be honest . After using light jockey its really apparent that this freestyler just doesnt work. My experience with freestyler is as follows. If you want to control a light in real time the software works . However if you would like to save a sequence and play it back ? good luck ! Freestyler has been a waste of my time and i really did have high hopes for it. So i guess for Dj's that dont need much and dont want to spend any money on lighting control this may be for you. But if you need or want software that really works ? Freestyler isnt it.

and not all of us can afford lightjockey! I never got a job in lighting because no one would train me on lightjockey or some of the other desks, Freestyler in my opinion is giving people a chance in the lighting industry to learn things at home and at a reasonable and affordable cost, then to progress further either with FS or something else...

Hej guys

I am running Matrin Light jockey. on one PC and Freestyler on two others and end this week an other one is will be installed with Freestyler and a touch screen added.

If Light jockey don't come in a new release quit soon then I think we will stop using it.
Our only problem is to rune more universes at the same time but it is not a big problem.

Sorry to hear that you fail to get it up running.
But on the other hand I don't a lot of mails in the forum where you are asking for help!

I think most of the guys asking for help to get up running, actually are up running now.

I love the concept of freestyler but feel i wasted much time trying to learn something that just doesnt work.
I was simply putting out my experiences with freestyler and posting a small warning for other people that might not have time to waste on something that is suppose to work but doenst. I have yet to see with my own eyes a light show that was created by freestyler using sequences that were saved and played back.

Im not saying you cant control dmx fixtures with freestyler. Im saying you cant create sequences and play them back like you can with a conventional controller or pc sofware.

I think a whole lot of dj's use freestyler and control their fixtures in real time and create small scenes and thats where freestyler is limited.

i suppose it entirely depends on your experience and what your trying to achieve.

for bands djs and small shows freestyler fits the bill out of the box, you can get more playback control using the 3rd party addons such as GoMonkey a Theatre Cue Stack.

I created a sequence this morning with two led cans and a moving head fixture. I started with the cans being blue and the moving head doing simple tilt movements in a white color. then changing all fixtures to red in the 6th step and in the seventh i set the moving head to strobe white and the cans on a solid blue color. When i play the sequence back the moving head strobes the whole time in a white color and the cans do exactly what i programmed them to. And the sequence wont stop when i click the stop button. Also i clicked save to cue and save to buttons and it didnt show up in the buttons .

where did i go wrong ? the cans did exactly what i asked them to but the moving head strobed the whole time . And the sequence wont stop when told to and the sequence never showed up in the buttons .

sounds like your mh is fooked but cabling can also cause issues....

Just to be sure... You did remember to turn the strobe off in the step you wanted it to stop? That's my most common mistake

try changing the mode to static and ensure that you set step one to be open and strobe off.
As for not stopping in the cue window there is an option restore values. its a big blue slightly curved arrow.
so when the sequences stops it will return to what ever settings were set before your cue started playing.

to create a scene stop all sequences, then manualy set your look. this will be used whenevr you stop a cue.

I will double check my settings but it seems im doing everything correctly. Thank you for your help. That dj support dude is a rude unhelpful jerk.

If you start with "this software just doesnt work" i totaly agree with dj support and Jan_k.

i also agree that It's not realy how he should Talk to someone.

But also to you is't not realy nice to say that the Software Sucks.

I have tried alot of free DMX software and freestyler is the BEST!

just like Martin Lightjockey i have never used it but, i now a lot of my friends did and they say to me it's not a realy nice pease of software. and i allways recommend Freestyler and they say it's a realy nice pease of software.

i also use sometimes a Avolight Pearl lighting desk, and i agree Freestyler doesn't have everything that other Lighttng desk have. But come on What would you expact from a free pease of software.
and if you ask me freestyler all ready have allot of Features.
Every Software/Firmware has is own Good and bad things.

Can you show me where i said the software sucks ?
No you cant because i never said that. Your an adult ? Doesnt seem very adult to lie ! I was simply putting out a warning to new users saying that this software doesnt do what it claims to be capable of. I spoke my piece and i used facts. Show me a sequence saved and played back using multiple moving lights ! And dont post some lame pattern you created with the shape generator. Show the cue list and post what you claim to be able to acheive.

i use the Submaster.

and it look like this.
SubM1: Intensitie chases or 1step
SubM2: Shutter chases or 1step
SubM3: Gobos chases or 1step
SubM4 :Colors chases or 1step
SubM5: Pan chases Made with FX or by hand
SubM6: Tilt chases Made with Fx or by hand
SubM7: Shapes made with the Shapes, all the same angle and all with a Differnt Degrees (so 4xMH = MH1:0degrees MH2:90degrees MH3:180 MH:270) you can do this with the Shape window

SubM8: Positions: Mirror ball or Lead singer or Drum or Some other static Position and you can realy nice switch between Positions and Pan/tilt chases or shapes
SubM9: Led intensitie chases and SubM Intensitie slider
SubM10: Led RGB chases (this also bepant on the ledpar, because you need a seperate Intensitie channel on the led par)
SubM11: Sunstrips , 1step
SubM12: Sunstrip , chases and here i can Merge the The fixture value's with each other so merge Subm11 and SubM12 with eachother. ( Sorry this one is only available at Version 3.4.5) but with older versions then 3.3.9 should it also work.

and on the overide buttons i have Strobe slow, mid , fast - GoboRot slow, mid , fast - Prism on/off, slow, mid fast. stuff like that
i also have all the Gobo and color on the override button with Selected fixture only on so i can use 2 differnt layers.

And now i can realy easy Controll everything with the Touchscreen UI2 and 3xBCF midi controlers.

I spent the last 14 hours sitting at the pc trying to figure out why my software doesnt work and why others do. I took freestyler off and reloaded it. And the sequences seem to save and play. I still dont understand much of the software as i havent had much time with a properly working version.

Thanks for all the help some of you gave. I look forward to seeing what this software is capable of.
