I am trying out Freestyler and liking all it has to offer. Thank you to the developers.
I run my bands show from a keyboard using software synths and midi control for all our effects and patch changes. I also used my computer to send patch change info to a hardware DMX controller to change scenes in sync with the songs.
I would like to do the same thing with Freestyler. I have a vurtual midi driver "loopbe1" installed. I go tot he midi setup in Freestyler, click start and edit. I then send a midi note on message from my other software. Freestyler acts as expected and learns the note message accurately. So, I know that the virtual driver is working and FS is seeing messages sent from my other program.
However, when I save and exit setup and try to send the same message there is no reaction by Freestyler. I have tried mulitple different actions, primarily testing with Toggle Blackout. However, I get no reaction in Freestyler to the trigger sent from my other software. Is it possible that this is because Freestlyer is not the "active" window when I send the midi message? that would be odd since Freestyler received the note on message when learning from the setup page while not being the active window.
Any ideas? I would really like to trigger sequences in Freestyler from my software midi controlelr and it seems like im so close but no success.
Appreciate your help,
Paul

Re: Virtual Midi
OK, I've managed to take a step in the right direction. Now, I can get the Blackout to go on, but when I resend the Note On Message, it does not turn off. There is no Toggle. It reacts once only. The same is tru if I send a command to an override button. It turns on, but doesnt turn off. If I use the mouse to turn off whatever Im triggering directly in Freestyler, I can usually get it to turn back on via midi but thats it. Its very inconsistent.
I get the same reaction when using an outboard piece of gear to send the midi message so Im sure its not the virtual midi now. What am I missing here? How can I send a midi message to start and stop a sequence or other action?

Re: Virtual Midi
Well, enough experimentation and I figured it out. in case anyone in the future ever needs the answer the solution is as follows:
In your sequencer or whatever you use to send the midi note on message, you need to send 2 messages. A Note On message at 127 followed by a Note On message at 0. This seems to work perfectly. Yay. Now on to the next thing . . .
