Another Laser (7 ch) not working

Post by nickguk767 »

Hi all, after spending days trying to create a fixture file for this relatively simple 7 channel laser, I still can't get it to work and need some advice, please.
I have managed to get plenty of other fixtures working by studying other posts here and so am not inexperienced with FC but this is driving me nuts now. I've attached the file I have made and the channel list for the laser and would be interested to see if anyone has any tips, please.
Thanks, Nick. :?
PS - there are 50 patterns for this laser, hence the 50 gobos on wheel 2

Yes, of course, sorry!
Basically nothing.............Laser is on, dipswitch set to ch1 (iam running FS with only this fixture so i can test it with as few variables as possible) and patched as first fixture at first channel in FS, DMX light blinking on laser so it is receiving a signal. All I seem to be constantly getting is the laser generating its own random patterns. Having said that, I think I have managed to get a little control over the patterns in one version I made in FC (ie the 50 gobos on ch2) although it was not definite enough to be certain and there certainly weren't 50, but patterns did change on clicking some of the gobo values.
Other than that, nothing has worked as expected............ no x-y, no shapes, no speed, not even getting into one of the operating modes!
I am at a loss, and am just thinking that the laser could be faulty. Right now I am going to start trying to configure an RGY laser that i have and see if I get any further with that, as I am sure i have tried every permutation of the settings for this green one!
Will keep you informed on here. Nick.

1. Re-check the dip-switch on your fixture.
Get its manual and check if its REALLY configured on channel 1. Tell us how dipswitches on your fixture are set now and provide us the manual. (PDF)
2. Where did the shutter channel 1 came from? Looking in the PFF, you set shutter channel 1. Channel 1 is'nt a shutter, but a mode control channel for your laser. (Your laser hasn't got a shutter channel!)*
3. To be able to control the laser via DMX, you should set the DMX value of channel 1 to 64...127. (see the DMX channel config you sent in Doc1.doc) - next time please attach the manual pdf completely please. Then and only -then- the channels 2 ... 7 respond like documented in that table. Otherwise, they won't.

* You should enter value 64 in the shutter channel for 'open' if you decide on keep using the shutter channel. But don't expect the shutter channel to be able to dim the laser.
But the way I see it, don't use the shutter channel and just name the channel 1 "Mode" and initialize it with a default value of 64.

So, keeping the above in mind, a simple solution without changeing the pff file is to set the shutter channel 64 (values from 64... 127 mean the same) and try out if the other channels (2...7) responds now. They should. If not; maybe you did make a mistake configuring the dipswitch for channel 1 on your laser.

Thanks, Remco.
I didn't attach the whole manual as I didn't think anything in it would tell anyone any more than the channel matrix that i did attach. Apologies. (Thanks, LJ krede for uploading it later!)
Ok, I have done what you suggested and now have some control............. I have set the shutter to 64 and can now get maybe 4 or 5 patterns but still nothing else yet. I know the laser doesn't have a dimmer and it won't dim, don't worry, but I have reached the point of trying any channel designator to try and get some reponse and then work back from there when i did, if you see what i mean!?
I am more than familiar with dip switch positions and their binary calcs, and it's definitely on 1 as I think that now getting some response has proven. (Incidentally I did discover another prob with another fixture some time ago - an LED par 36 where the dips had to be physically set at 1 value less than its FS value........ very strange, but they all were the same.........FS ch1 had to be 0 on the fixture, FS5 had to be fixture 4 etc. A fixture prob not a FS one though, but strange)
Am going to carry on changing the pff now to see if i can get anything from ch 3-7 and an accurate ch 2. Any more help still welcome, please.
Thanks, Nick.
