Cuelist buttons and the mouse click

Post by wardomon »

Maybe it's just me and my computer. When I click on a cue button the scene doesn't change until I let go of the button. Do I have to learn the timing of light changes from the "back" side of the mouse click? Can I change it to the the "front" of the click? Is this happening to anyone else? Please try it yourself and let me know how it works for you.

This is default windows behaviour.
A button click event is fired on -release- of the mouse button. There are various reasons for that - I'm not gonna bother you with those.
However, software developers can make a button respond when it is pressed down, before it is released.
Its just not that common and even unwanted behaviour at some point.

Using an external control or keyboard shortcuts, is different though. Those are not windows buttons, so they respond at the moment they are pressed, not when they are released.

Well, I'll be darned. I just checked some other programs and it is. That is so annoying because I have a delay on my midi input, too.

So maybe use a keyboard shortcut then and in the meantime find out how to solve the delay you have on the midi control?
Maybe even measure it somehow - The time it takes between the moment you press the midi button and the moment you see FreeStylers output window (edit->show output) change to the desired DMX value.

The delay is on Magic3D, sometimes as much as 2 seconds. The output window lags by less than half a second. Reduced the visualizer to low. Still the same. Upped the program priority in setup. Same. I saw no change when I changed refresh rate, either up or down. MidiOX shows no delay from the keyboard. I'm setting up a fresh install of XP and Freestyler today. What am I missing?

Magic3D lags all the time. Depending on your systems specifications.
Its the output window what should _not_ lag a tiny bit. Try that without the visualiser running as that (might) cost lots of CPU.

Oh, dopey me. I installed "actual" sound card drivers. The ones that came on that little shiny round thing. Way. More. Better. I could swear that the USB-to-midi interface is smiling at me. Thanks for your interest, help and pointers.

Better than midi (at least until I give a BCF2000 a try) is a Belkin Nostromo n52 game controller. Fourteen configurable keys, fingertip mousewheel, space bar, 8-way hat switch and one more button thrown in for fun. I quit counting at 60, Belkin claims 104 functions. That's a whole keyboard under one hand. My lights just got a whole lot easier to run.
