Small USB touchscreen :)

Post by bckeeping »

Hi Guys,

I have found these 7" touchscreens on the internet and am thinking of buying one, looks pretty useful as a place to put overrides etc when using a midi faderboard for live control :)

They only require a USB connection for power, screen image and the touchscreen function. Useful and portable for use with laptops.
Particularly useful for me as my laptop also runs visuals during the show and so the external VGA is aleady in use.

http://www.mimomonitors.com/ available in the uk from Scan http://www.scan.co.uk/Shop/Computer-Har ... ors-PC/CRT

Thought it might be of interest to some of you. Has anyone had any experience with them at all?

Right, this arrived today and I have to say it is ideal if a little pricey....

Its a bit of a pain to setup, but works perfectly once configured. It will fit a touchscreen panel matrix of buttons 7 x 6.
Having this, next to a fader board, in my case the cheapo nanokontrol gives a pretty nice hands on setup.

Now if only buttons could be used to apply preset palettes to fixtures ;)

I'll stick some photos up soon if that would be handy.

I am inspired!!!

I ordered a 7" monitor 1024x768 16.9

I really love the way you did your touchscreen!! I cannot for the life of me figure out how to duplicate it. I have Freestyler set for touch screen two and I can add buttons, move buttons, change text, ... But I cannot figure out how you made multi page tabs and how you created the outline.

Care to share or point me where to learn?

Hi There,

Sure, there aren't actualy multi page tabs. The buttons at the top simply select different override pages.

On each override page the buttons have the same function. So override 2 is always Blue for arguments sake, but for different groups of fixtures on each page.
That way by selecting the buttons at the top you control which fixtures you are overriding.

Happily, Raph is currently working on a better approach for this, where overrides can be applied to selected groups of fixtures. I'll let you know!

For the outline, I simply made my own background bmp picture. You can find this in the freestyler/images/touch folder. Just rename the old one and make your own :) I found it useful to lay out all my buttons, screengrab this and use it as a template to make sure I get my outlines in the right place.

Hope that helps and good luck :)
