[FIXED]Sidewindow won't open in Windows 7 64 bit. Help!

Post by blaide13 »

Installed Freestyler 3.2.8 on a Dell XPS16 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and after installing all the fixtures I tried to use it. It all works except the side window does not slide out when I point my mouse over it. Without access to that window, I can not control and set the channels on my Chauvet Colorstrips and other lighting fixtures.
I have Freestyler 3.2.8 installed on another Dell XPS15 Vista laptop machine and everything works fine. Unfortunately, I'm using that machine as my DJ rig and got the second laptop as a dedicated Freestyler machine. I copied all the fixture files, chases I created,etc.. It wouldn't work at first in Virtual mode so I figured maybe it was because I didn't have my Enntec Pro hooked up. But even after hookinmg it up to the Dongle, the same issue. My sequences that I saved from the other computer and transferred work fine. Everything is fine except the side window will not slide open.
I have a HUGE show this Friday and absolutely must have this machine up and running. Please help!

Follow up. Just to clarify one point. When Freestyler first opens, the side slide out window is a small square with a blue arrow in it. When I select a fixture, the square turns into a long bar (as usual). I bet the sliders function perfectly as the rest of the software works perfectly. Just can't get it to slide out. Also, when I went to open Magic 3D visualizer, Freestyler crahes everytime.

So I did the next logical thing and went into Windows 7 64bit's add/remove programs and uninstalled Freestyler and all it's componenrts, shut down (not restart) and startyed up again and reinstalled Freestyler. The same exact problem exists. I'm not a computer guy, I just use them. I've exhuasted what I know how to do (not much I'm afraid). Any assistance or help would be greatly appreciated at this point.

I also went into C:Freestyler/Freestyler.exe Clicked on properties and tried to change the windows compatability to Vista, then XP, retarted after each attempt. Still no luck. I put it back the way it was. Anyone able to help?

Go into Setup>FreeStyler Setup>Preferences>Extra Options and tick Automatically expand faders when fixture selected and see if it fly out automatically, if it does then at least that is a workaround until we can find out why it does not when you point over it with the mouse.

There was a previous post about the faders not opening. I believe it was a result of the monitor resolution settings. You may have to bring down your display settings if they are set too high.

Hi, I run windows 7 on a 64 bits and succeed in this task. Did you try to run the software as administrator (CTRL+SHIFT while clic to start the software or right clic on the link and run as administrator).
I had myself an issue and outputs were not properly driven due to the admin rights.

Right, but they were opening but baddly displayed, due to magnifisation of the screen cause of the multitouch option.

Ok, It works. Thank you so so much everyone. The problem was the screen resolution. My laptop display was set at the highest resolution which was 1920 X 1080. I dropped it down to the next highest resolution which is 1280 X 1024. It now opens and everything is displayed properly. The only draw back is that now the screen is mucjh smaller as the left and right sides have black bars and there is less worek space on the dashboard. Hopefully future updates of the software will take advantage of higfher resolutions. Thanks again for all your help.

I run FreeStyler at 1920 x 1200 on both my desktop and laptop, so it can do those resolutions, but I do not use Windows 7 on either machine.
I do know that 1920 x 1080 is one of those resolutions that have recently come out because of HD television, do not know if that has anything to do with it.

Talking of resolutions and things not working properly, I cannot get touchscreen 1 to fit on my second monitor (1440 x 900) touchscreen, I have to play with the resolution until I can get it to nearly fit. Luckily I don't use it and use touchscreen 2 instead, but I do beta test so have to try things out.

Thanks Raph, Version 3.3.1 has worked a charm. Now opens Touchscreen on my second screen with everything in view. Nice work.

Also the resolution of my main screen now reflects that as well, superb.

Thanks Raph, The side window comes out now on my highest resolution. Couldn't ask for better support. I post my problem on the forum and go to bed, and wake up the next morning to find an update that solves my problem. Thanks again.

A new version - nice!

But I just discoverd, on the main an the download page are still standing "version 3.2 (uploaded 17-oct-2009)". I think the date needs an update as well ;)

The "Home" page shows 3.3.1 (uploaded 5-april 2010) but the "Download" page shows 3.2 as you mentioned.

Both links get the current 3.3.1 version.
