*PAR cans flicker with Velleman VM116 / K8062

Hi,

I don't know if someone still has the installer for FreeStyler before the Output Refresh Rate function was added???

As i have been having a problem with my lighting rig i work with... The problem i am having is with the dimmer racks... when i have the DMX value low e.g. 80 the Par cans flicker.... now after trying to work out why it was doing this, i then found out that it was FreeStyler... as when i tested it with the demo software that came with my DMX unit and had it at the same value... it did not flicker at all!!!

Now i believe it must be since the Output Refresh Rate option has been added, my DMX unit "Velleman k8062 / VM116" hates that new setting... and something don't work and makes the output all made and makes the lamps flicker if you get me??? might be a bug that might need the be fixed at some time.

So to fix this if there's a version that someone has that was out before the Output Refresh Rate function was added that i can try i be very happy to hear...

Thank you if you can help etc...

Because I don't see this very often it may be a problem related to your DMX box which means its not acting the way it should I cannot explain the software part but there are alot of velleman users here that dont have problems...

Topic title changed to something better.

Definately not a FreeStyler problem.
The "Output Refresh Rate" option was always there, "forever" , but was invisible and fixed on 50ms.

Then; "Why the demo works okay?", you say then. That demo does not send out 512 channels but way less - and/or uses just a few channels with values higher than 0 in it.

So here's your test to do with FreeStyler: configure FS to send out 96 channels. (to be found on the interface selection screen).
Add only a few PARs, like 4. Do not add anything else. Make sure all channels send out zero's except those of the 4 pars. My guess is it works correctly now?

Here's the deal: I once owned the VM116 / K8062. That interface has an onboard processor that is just WAY to slow to keep up 512 channels having all different values (and the problems begin at way lesser channels). The interface gets slow, unresponsive and could be the source of your problem. My guess is: it is.

Search on this forum for VM116 / K8062 from me. You'll find loads of posts, seeing me finding out the slow shit.

Solutions:
1. Use lesser DMX channels - or keep as many as possible in a row the same.
2. Learn to live with it ;)
3. Buy a good DMX interface

You're not the only one. Didn't post this problem because I was convinced it had something to do with my dimmerpacks. I'm using ShowTec MultiDims and found out this only occurs if I only had 2 pars connected to a dimmer at a low value. With 4 pars it didn't show. It also could have something to do with the powersupply at the venue. (It was a small place and 4x 525 W was a bit of overkill.... :? )
I'm planning to order an Enntec. If things change for the better I'll let you know.

Nice!

That actually proves (again, too bad) that the Velleman VM116/K8062 simply can't keep up when using more channels. Bad equipment... No one should buy that crap anymore. :)
