Getting pictures to display must be something to do with size, I do not mean upload size, I mean X & Y size.
All I did was take Lee.jpg and reduce it in size by 1% and it displays. I tried the original in both jpg and png and would only allow a download. Yep this is a png version of that but I am sure a jpg version would also work.

So if a picture does not display then try and reduce it by 1% and see if that makes a difference.

@DJ Support

These are inline pictures, just browse for the picture, place inline, nothing else added, sometimes a file description/comment. Some display, some display as a link to download.

I never have any problem if the pictures are hosted elsewhere and then pointed to with an image tag. I am pretty sure that is the same for others.
I used to host all my pictures on on my server but noticed one day that LJ_krede had post a picture that was inline so started to do the same thing. Every now and then a picture for whatever reason will only place inline as a download link.
I found out that if I reduced the image (size) by 1% it did then display, I need to try it with other posts where I have pictures that would not display.
I am not saying it is a solution, it might be you have to increase by 1% or make the width or height an even number. Who knows exactly.

@Onge I belive its this... Image link dimensions:
Display image attachment as an inline text link if image is larger than this. To disable this behaviour, set the values to 0px by 0px. 300 x 300 px

Nope as it seems that it might be smaller pictures do not display inline. Remember I reduced the dimensions of the picture. dmxlightings picture is smaller smaller than my picture.
BUT - I have also had two pictures with identical x & y dimensions and one would display inline the other would not.
