I also get BSOD, not on installation but on running the new program, I get the splashscreen and progress bar as it starts, then the BSOD. I was running SP1, but then I downloaded FS 2.96i to my lovely powerful laptop which has the last XP SP2 version and it does the same!!! So at a loss, really.

The question in hand is wwhat drastic changes were made from 2.95 that would potentially cause the BSOD?

Maybe! But I rarely run any common applications between the desktop and laptop..only the usual things like MS Office. There's no antivirus or dodgy shareware programs on the laptop.
The good news is I've got version F working better now I'm familiar with its quirks.

What interface are you running?
What errors are the BSOD returning?

I'm still struggling here !
Upgrading to J made my laptop running w2k sit and do nithing with just the splash screen progress bar strobing. Hitting cntrl/alt/del give a quick Blue screen of death, then laptop reboots after a second.
Re installed J several times, no improvement
reinstalled w2k, added no other apps, installed 2.95H and manually installed 3d (inbuilt link doesnt work) yes I did follow manul install instructions, except 2 of the DLL don't exist on my laptop, and for 4 hours of reinstalling and uninstalling I got activex cant create an object. Tried just installing FS, and every possible combination of instaling the two apps, and downloading assorted dll's, reg cleaners, I ran the one liner Raph suggested, and also the clickme.bat also suggested (which failed !) must be at least 40 reboots, and just before threw the laptop against the wall in frustration, FS LOADS !!!!! Haven't yet connected a fixture to see if it will control anything...
However, 3d will not load, click the button in FS and nothing, no hd or processor activty, just nothing. It loads as a stand alone, but not with the prog.
Am seriously hacked off now !! Have been using and promoting FS on severals forums and loads are now using it after my recommendation. I've been using it for 3 years now, have contributed via paypal, and this upgrade to J has just shafted me and I have lots of gigs and no way to control my large lighting rig wthout going to buy a hardware controller, which I would rather not do !
PLEASE, someone either post something here, email me (
pete@pwes.co.uk) or call me (07711 573 276 I'll call you straight back to save your bill !) but this is really doing my head in
Thanks !
Pete

I don't think the version of J works with The 3d Because the 3d software got updated.
Maybe this file will help, paste it into the freestyler directory.

I'm sorry but you expect anything new and updated to run on an 8/9 year old OS?
Time you ditched that and got xp or vista...
that would solve all your problems!

I did expect it to run on w2k, or have a warning attached that it wasn't compatible !!!

I've loaded a process monitor, so perhaps someone who understands these things could look at the log and work out where FS is stuggling, I hope this helps.....
Thanks !

I thought the problem was with easy view.
The error can't create output thread is beasuse a Dll is registered in your system.
There are plenty of threads discussing this.

Thanks Matt, there ARE lots of threads, and they all seem to suggest running the one liner in the RUN command window which I did, and running the CLICKME.BAT solution, both of which I've done but this has not solved my issues.
Today I am going to upgrade the laptop to XP and see if that works..... fingers crossed !!
