Hi.

I have Freestyler installed on a laptop and while having a play with shows etc it intermittently stops, the laptop makes the Sound of the USB interface being disconnected and the lights freeze it will then resume after 30 seconds or so.

I initially thought it was the DMX interface so ordered a new one. This does the same.

Has anyone else had this or know of the issue?

I've been using a Udmx usb cable.

Which operating system do you use?
And which interface you?

I had problems with the Monacor510 connected with windows 10.
The'application will crash o'starting

i had to make a downgrade to Windows 7 to not have more problems; but I do not know if this is your case.

try going into windows device manager select each USB hub, select the power management tab and uncheck the box that allows computer to turn off usb. Do this on all USB hubs AND USB 3.0 hubs

But you can also check here http://www.illutzmination.de/udmxdriver.html?&L=1 to make sure you are using the right driver (there's a few variations), make sure you do not use any USB extension cables, you could also try a different USB port.
